I read recently that 1 in 4 Americans get no paid vacation.

I think it's common knowledge that the culture in the US is such that we work longer hours and place more emphasis on our careers than most other countries. this could be a misleading statistic, though. I haven't necessarily been on "vacation" in the past year but I have definitely traveled and gotten away for long weekends here and there quite a bit. I took a week off work for Christmas but spent the entire time on a marine base in NC visiting family so I wouldn't call that a "vacation."

it is certainly an interesting stat, however, and is a further illustration of how many americans live to work instead of work to live.

I would have declined my current employment offer if I hadn't found their PTO amount satisfactory. Proper leisure makes for happier and more productive employees.

Hey, these "recovery" jobs don't offer paid vacation or enough money to actually take one. But at least you only have to work 20 hours a week!

I always felt guilty taking vacations. I'm in a position where I don't have to work so much now, but I still feel that I have to produce something, to work at something. I wish I could just relax.

They say hard work never killed anyone, but why risk it? Less work, more fun.

And thats not FAIR...

Poor sad pandas....

I'm lucky I get and take 4 weeks a year. However I worked with a German affiliate and employees took 6 -7 weeks off (and had beer in the company cafeteria) and in terms of productivity kicked our ass.

Another example of American capitalism failing the American people.

I wish I lived and worked in New Zealand, They get 30 days off a year. Lucky bastards.
