Clinton aide may have 'delivered favors' for friends, IG finds

An investigation may have found evidence a top State Department aide to Hillary Clinton took advantage of government employment rules with potential conflicts of interest and overpayments.
In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry Thursday, Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said an inspector general probe suggested Huma Abedin leveraged her State Department job to benefit her two other employers at the time: the Clinton Foundation and a consulting firm called Teneo Strategies.

Teneo Strategies was founded by a longtime aide to Bill Clinton, Douglas Band, and boasted the former president as a paid board member when it first launched in 2011.
Abedin allegedly sent or received more than 7,000 emails on her government account that involved Band, the letter said.

As an example of the potential conflicts of interest at play, Grassley cited an email exchange in which Band pressed Abedin to encourage her State Department boss, Hillary Clinton, to facilitate a White House appointment for one of his clients.

More fuel on the fire.

If that, very typical, behavior is going to be "investigated" then all of DC should be looked at. There are enough direct rule/law violations to "investigate" - no need to try guilt by association just yet. Nearly everyone assumes that "networking" (the polite term for cronyism?) is rampant among the the DC elite - opening that can of worms is bound to have many unintended consequences. People in glass houses... ;)

It is a non news story.

May have? I think it's a slam dunk she has - now was anything illegal done and is there evidence? I'm sure she destroyed anything that would incriminate her alone with that email server.

They are all whores- male or female whores, but whores nonetheless.
Why are you surprised?
If law enforcement really dug deep, with as many resources and access to information as needed, the Senate and the House would be empty.

I don't think I stated I was in any way surprised.

Reason this is a non story. The problem is reflective of the massive corruption in US politics.
We do have our up north of you, but it pales in comparison.
Even using the so called 10 % scenario.

I guess your solution is not to try to solve the problem and ignore it. Just let it keep on happening. Just give up. Let our government officials do whatever they want.

The problem in DC will continue until the voters value integrity more than they value their party "winning". Given that the federal government will take in $3.4 trillion or so this year and hand out $3.9 trillion or so, and insert themselves so deeply into our lives, the voters do exactly what the pols do, and accept the corruption and lack of integrity because they feel this less important than electing their candidate. For example, while influence peddling for campaign contributions and personal gain is rampant in DC, the Clintons have collected hundreds of million, and I believe all but a very small minority of democrats would accept that behavior if she is the democratic candidate. (I am not suggesting this behavior is any way unique to the democrats, because its universal, but compared to the Clintons, all the rest are amateurs.).

The preponderance of the evidence to date certainly suggests that Hillary and various others were engaged in a host of illegal activities during her tenure as SoS. There is little doubt the evidence that could convict her exists. The chief question seems to be whether or not it will be found. This last is what has Hillary supporters chuckling. They support the lawlessness of the Clintons as long as they can politically gain from it.

I agree. Read the post I was referring to.

No, it must be fixed, but it must all be fixed. The problem is partisan politics that trump what's actually good for America. Are you posting stories that implicate corruption in the GOP?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Republican_party_scandals

I didn't see any current scandals. The reason I am focused on Hillary is because of the size, scope and she is a possible candidate. If there was anything on any other candidates I would post on them also. Cruz had 17 traffic tickets, wait, some of those where his wife's. That isn't worth my time. There was no cover up.

Jeb Bush is a prime candidate but there hasn't been any issues pop up yet, which surprises me. He is as bad as Hillary but there aren't any issues. I suspect the reason for that is that he hasn't had enough rope to hang himself like Hillary has.

What corruption is Trump implicated in other than being a narcissistic moron?

I agree that it all has to be fixed, no matter what side. If you see something that I am not seeing that has to do with out future then post it. Right now Hillary issue is huge. It could be bigger than Nixon. This is history in the making. I find it fascinating.

Not at all. Corruption runs rampant thru both parties.

To fix government corruption, it must all be called out, and not excused when its your own party. There will be more, there always is, if I see you calling out republicans when it surfaces as well, then your consistent. And no, this isn't bigger than Nixon, after all, he was president, not SOS.

That remains to be seen. We don't know how far this is going to splatter. I am not saying Obama is involved. I really would be surprised if he was. I think some of the leaks come from his people. He has never liked Bill after Bill made the comment about how Obama should be carrying Bill's bags.

In a sense it is impossible to root out corruption in DC, given the rules by which both parties operate. If a congressman collects a "campaign contribution" of $25k for having breakfast with a lobbyist for the airline industry, and votes on a bill dealing with the industry an hour later, this is business as usual, its not corruption. Congressional wives, children and other relatives are also making big bucks in DC as "lobbyists"--- just business as usual, its not corruption. Who knows how many relatives, and friends of congressman and key DC staffers are making big bucks working for firms doing business with government, as the congressman will take their call. Day in and day out we see votes with all the democrats on side and all the republicans on the other. Either both parties are sending only blind rabid partisans to DC, or the congressman don't vote their conscience for fear of not getting the committee appointment they want or bringing their share of the pork back to the district. This is not corruption. Other than taking cash, and putting it your pocket(or refrigerator) when you sell your vote, I'm at loss for what corruption would look like when it comes to congress.

So what is your point. Really, it was clear as mud.

The point is, in DC its only corruption if you don't follow the rules for the institutionalized corruption and you leave a trail. Abedin left a trail. I am all for the IG hammering her, but it will be more than a bit ironic given the $ 2 billion or so taken in by her boss's foundation, and the amount of money the Clintons have personally banked since Bill left the office. It won't do anything about the corruption in DC, but if the IG digs in during their investigation, there might be some very interesting things come out of it.

I agree. The only two types of entities that have been able to recover any information from Clinton of their network has been the IG and watchdog groups. It is funny that as soon as two IGs came out and stated there was a security problem with the emails the DOJ came out with restrictions to what the IGs could do to get information to proceed with their investigations. It is literally an army of attorneys (from DOJ, IRS, State Department, name any agency) working to stop any impede any investigations. The largest threat I see to Hillary right now is Judge Sullivan in the Judicial Watch case. That is ripe on Friday. I can't wait to see what kind of game they try to play with him.

Is FOX or any other right leaners reporting on this? Why isn't congress pushing the executive back on this?

If members of the Canadian media asked too many tough questions they would be ignored by the more powerful politicians, or their career never progressed beyond the middle fringes. It was largely a Liberal 'old boys club', though girls are now admitted as far as reading the news is concerned..

I don't know if Fox has done an article on it. I don't read Fox that much. They might be a good place to find a subject to research but I verify anything I read on Fox before I believe it.

Congress is talking about rewriting the laws so it is more specific. I don't think Congress has figured out if they want to go with a suit or rewriting the law. They are actually pushing back.

Okay, googled it:
Obama Administration Restricts Investigative Powers Of Inspectors General - Fox Nation

Inspectors general say Obama aides obstruct investigations: Examiner Editorial | Washington Examiner
The 47 IGs minced no words: “Each of us strongly supports the principle that an inspector general must have complete, unfiltered, and timely access to all information and materials available to the agency that relate to that IG’s oversight activities, without unreasonable administrative burdens. The importance of this principle, which was codified by Congress in Section 6(a)(1) of the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended (the IG Act), cannot be overstated. Refusing, restricting, or delaying an IG's access to documents leads to incomplete, inaccurate, or significantly delayed findings or recommendations, which in turn may prevent the agency from promptly correcting serious problems and deprive Congress of timely information regarding the agency’s performance.”

Fox would be among the few media to investigate this case.
