The mainstream media is leaving us with the impression that the finances of Social Security improved over the past year. This is a bit of a surprise since CBO degrades the system's prospects to 2029 - in a good economy. So you have to ask how the Trustees upgraded the system.

First, when they say 2034, they aren't saying how many hours into 2034. The forecast seems to carry us to early January. Second, as the article points out, the assumptions are wildly out of the mainstream.
