Donald Trump doubled down on his controversial claim that Mexico is sending criminals to the United States -- but insisted he was misrepresented, and really likes Mexico and Mexicans.

I believe that Trump will find that few people will vote for those who hate, fear and despise them.

I think Trump needs to lay off the sauce.

Well, since David Duke has the black vote sewed up, and all..........

In America, money = power.

I think this may be an example of being, 'delusionally drunk with power'!

lulz. sure you will, Donald.

I think Trump is in dire need of a urinalysis test, because if he really thinks he's going to win the Hispanic vote, he's doing some really good drugs. But then, narcissism and megalomania never were good for one's perceptions of reality....

This guy appears to be politically tone-deaf!

Firstly, he appears to back-peddle:

+++

"Everybody knows that I have great relationships with Mexican people. I have many, many people who work for me who are Mexican. They're phenomenal people. I love them. They're enormously talented. I have great respect for the country of Mexico," he said.

+++

Then he follows with this:

+++

"But he added: "The problem is the country of Mexico has leaders that are far smarter than our leaders, far more cunning than our leaders.

"Their negotiators are much better than our negotiators. And they're sending people to our country that we don't want but we take, and they don't want. And you know who they're sending.""

+++

Huh???

Wha???

I've come to an inescapable conclusion:

Mr. Trump may be knowledgeable in the accumulation of wealth, he may be a shrewd businessman, and he may know how to game the system with eminent domain & bankruptcies - but he DOES NOT know how to use public tact in the political arena!

This has got to be the result of too much money; In terms of out-of-touch, he's like Mitt Romney on steroids!

Trump is right. We are getting a lot of criminals from Mexico...hell, the Obama administration is arming them.

Ten posts before anyone actually agrees with Trump's hate speech. How long before someone says that he really didn't mean what he clearly said?

Trump is his own clown car in this race. Pandering to the angry white male crowd, yeah, those demographics really work.

Well, considering Trump hasn't expressed fear of anyone..though he clearly doesn't like criminal illegal aliens...I really don't think he needs to worry all that much if those criminal illegal aliens don't vote for him.

People who are in the USA illegally can't vote. But millions of Hispanic citizens can vote and they'll be voting against Trump.

The only way that Trump will ever see the inside of the White House is as a guest.

Wait and see.

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP.

LOL!!

There you go with your "predictions", again.

There's going to be an election next year and I predict that Mr. Trump won't win it.

Let's see you prove me wrong.

:lol:

The clock is ticking.

LOL!!

You want me to prove that your "prediction" is wrong? That's ridiculous.

Your prediction is just your opinion...your guess...about what's going to happen a year and a half from now. Besides, nobody even knows if Trump will be the Republican candidate. If he's not, then it'll be impossible for him to win.

Heck, you might be right in your guess or you might be wrong. Either way, I don't care.

btw, why do you have such a hard time dealing with quotes? I'm guessing it's lack of attention to detail.

Here in Texas, we have Tejanos who fought right alongside us for our independence from Mexico in the revolution. Were here way before the American influx and joined forces with us against the dictator Santa Anna of Mexico.

We also have Mexicans, who are not us citizens, and have ZERO loyalty to the US, but are here for economic reasons. Who can blame them.

Most extremely left leaning people will be very surprised to learn just how many "Hispanics" (PC term) will also vote to stem the tide of illegals into our country.

Once when I was in the unemployment line in Pasadena, TX I was talking with a Tejano welder who wanted all of the illegals put on a bus and sent back ala Arapio. We said his wages had gone down by almost half since they work for less money, yet do not do half as good a job. However, the bean counters in businesses only look at how cheap something can be done and quality is none of their concern, so they keep on hiring less skilled but cheaper labor, and my friend the Tejano whos family had been in Texas since forever, is now standing in the unemployment line with me because of it.

It was eye-opening talking with him.

It was not hate speech. It is ANGER speech. Reflecting the anger of those that actually are loyal to the United States. These illegals are only loyal to Mexico and are just here for a better life, because their government is such a mess and pretty much has been since day one.

Did you know Santa Anna was El Presidente' 11 times in 22 years? What does that tell you about their government.

The anger this white male feels is against our own government for not making a better way for them to be here other than swimming the Rio Grande. This horrific flood needs to be stopped and stopped now...THEN....figure out a way for them to come here legally.

I hate the word "undocumented". Illegal is illegal.

In this computer age, I am for sealing the border up tight with a minefield, robocontrolled machine guns, drones with hellfire missiles, and central points of dispersion of airborne troops to insert at the right time. Our border should be a free-fire zone. Enter at your own risk.

The U.S. has periodically witnessed political fads where nativist movements have burst onto the scene, gained some measure of popularity, and then flamed out. Trump's success to date in the Republican pre-nominating process is sort of a 21st century variation of the mid-19th century's rise and subsequent fall of the Native American Party aka the Know-Nothing Party.

Nativisim is a superficial ideology that serves no practical purpose. It does nothing but blame others for the nation's problems and is nothing more than a call for demographic balkanization.

Its sparks were evident in Pat Buchanan's failed candidacies of 1992, 1996, and 2000. In the wake of the Great Recession, it gained traction in 2010, and is currently poisoning the Republican Party and U.S. conservative movement. The combination of the aftermath of a severe recession, ongoing demographic change, unusually weak leaders, and populist pundits all fueled its rise. The Know-Nothing movement coincidentally emerged as the 1837-43 Depression was ending.

That Trump and his 21st century nativist movement is being coddled by the GOP leadership and fanned by populist radio hosts who masquerade as conservatives while spouting messages that run counter to the conservatism of an Edmund Burke, William Buckley, or Ronald Reagan does not confer upon it a sense of legitimacy. It is the antithesis of the American founding principles, a perversion of traditional conservatism, and a rejection of the U.S. constitutional republic.

Trump and his followers may be loud, but for all the noise they are currently generating, they very likely do not represent a desire to promote the best interests of the nation. Indeed, drawing from one of conservatism's foremost thinkers, Edmund Burke described that kind of situation in observing, "It is a general popular error to suppose the loudest complainers for the public to be the most anxious for its welfare." Burke understood that even as radical or reactionary movements championed the cause of the people, such rhetoric was little more than a means to far more sinister ends.

All said, just as was the case with the Know-Nothing movement, Trump and the nativists who are fueling his rise and poisoning the Republican Party and conservative movement will meet failure. They will fail, because they offer nothing of substance for addressing the nation's challenges (including the immigration-related issues that they have exploited in their rhetoric) or seizing its opportunities (pessimism, fear, and fatalism crowd out the pursuit of opportunity). The 21st century Know-Nothings will be repudiated in the general election, if by some chance Trump emerges as the Republican nominee (very unlikely). Afterward, over time, they will recede from the electorate and the Trump boomlet will vanish from nation's political landscape leaving behind only an historical footnote.

If you don't care, then why did you make a fuss about it? You could have just let it go and moved on to other things. Explain that, if you can.

BTW: I also doubt very much that Trump will be the GOP's candidate. I took that into account when I made my prediction.

The old White men who run the GOP will run some other loser.

Trump is an opportunist, and he thinks very poorly of the United States, and especially of conservatives. He thinks that there is enough hatred and prejudice in the Republican party that it will support his candidacy. That is the opportunity he is attempting to exploit.

Well, given the sheer number of threads started daily on this board about Trump, he sure commands attention, which is what he wants anyway. He doesn't need to win the nomination. He's won the game he's playing. It's pretty damn funny watching this.
