Flag burners get attacked by bikers[W:634]

Weenies burn flag to protest cops, get attacked by bikers, need cops to save their asses | New York Post

    Now they probably*love*the cops.

A group of flag-burning anti-NYPD protesters needed New York’s Finest to save their skin from a gang of angry bikers who tried to pummel them in a Brooklyn park for setting Old Glory ablaze Wednesday.

The fiery stunt by a few dozen members of the group Disarm the Police led to a chaotic scene at about 8 p.m. in Fort Greene Park, when the activists enraged 40 members of the Hallowed Sons Motorcycle Club by roasting the flag on a tiny barbecue grill.

“They took off like little b—hes,” said one biker. “They lit the f–king flag and took off running once they got slapped once or twice.”

The anarchists had announced on social media that they had planned to burn the flag in protest of NYPD policies, drawing a large group of flag-waving counterprotesters, including the bikers.

While it’s illegal to openly burn anything in Fort Greene Park, the self-styled anarchists managed to find a loophole in the law that allows cooking in closed barbecue grills.

Thus, they started to roast the flag, but they didn’t burn it for long. One of the bikers rushed forward in a fit of rage and kicked over the grill, sending embers flying. He then doused it as members of the pro-flag crowd chanted “USA! USA!”

The bikers then started trying to rough up the protesters — who were quickly saved by members of the same police force that they criticize.

The protesters were shielded by the cops and escorted out of the park.

“I served in the Marines,” said counterprotester Brian Christopher, 23. “We defend this flag. We are ready to die for it. When I see people burning it and showing complete ignorance, it’s very offensive.”

No arrests were made in the scuffle, and the group’s flag-burning stunt went up in smoke.

This one line from the article says it all
The protesters were shielded by the cops and escorted out of the park.
A little common sense is a rare thing anymore.

Right because bike gangs are really the image of "patriotism" we need to regale... NOT! They're quite often criminals, murderers, drugs dealers, .... really, this is somehow good?

And protesting police brutality is saying that the police should do their jobs properly, not that police should disappear. The only way these protesters would be hypocrites is if after the bikers were in hand cuffs or detained, the protesters suggested they should be mistreated, artificially set up to appear guilty, tased, shot, sodomized with inanimate objects, .... I don't think they did that. People protest abuses by police, not the concept of police over all.

You folks are just so black and white in your thinking... police can do no wrong, and anyone who wants the police to obey the laws and honorable conduct somehow want the police to disappear and do nothing.

    Such childish perspectives.

Looks like the protesters got what they deserved.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

    Well

The intention of DISARMTHEPOLICE.COM is to encourage our Police Departments to become more functional and less threatening to the public by providing a forum where citizens can exchange concerns and initiate actions to improve the function of their Police Departments through public awareness and action.

All too frequently we hear about police shootings against the public that result in death when, in fact, lethal force should ALWAYS be the last resort. The problems we're seeing in the US are:
lethal force is being used prematurely

proliferation of a lack of trust toward law enforcement officers by the public

"us vs. them" mentality among law enforcement officers.

The first step in improving the relationship between the public and police officers is to remove deadly force from the officer's belt. Doing so encourages public involvement and curtails officer aggressiveness which can easily escalate situations resulting in unnecessary arrests and bodily harm.
Disarm the police . com - Our Mission

According to their mission statement they do not want to eliminate the police, just prevent them from carrying firearms. I guess they want the NYPD to be more like English Bobbies...only provided arms when they are needed. So they probably would be glad of police protection for their demonstration and this would not be in conflict with their mission statement.

Having said that, I disagree with their goals. First because I support the 2nd Amendment and a cop should be able to carry a gun just like I can. Second because deadly force may be required immediately as needed and can't wait for a SWAT team to show up.
If I stop responding it doesn't mean I've conceded the point or agree with you. It only means I've made my point and I don't mind you having the last word. Please wait a few minutes before "quoting" me. I often correct errors for a minute or two after I post before the final product is ready.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Not so sure we should be cheering this. I do not like US flag burning either, but what concerns me more is an individual's right to do so. Agree with the decision or not, the Supreme Court has ruled on is matter. The decision went so far as to say it is unconstitutional for a government (federal, state or local) to prohibit by law the desecration of the US flag. Symbolic speech (I think that was the term used in the decision) is covered by the action, or a statement made. When we cheer the intimidation by these bikers we cheer the suppression of rights even though a government was not involved, rights come with the inherent consequence that you will not like or agree with all you hear and see on the account of others. I am all for these bikers expressing their dissatisfaction with this and making that known to these protestors, but intimidation of other's rights is a road we do not want to go down.

Might be a story that makes you smile now (I'll admit, I did,) but it does not end well when you really think about what we are cheering.
"Every time something really bad happens, people cry out for safety, and the government answers by taking rights away from good people." - Penn Jillette.
