Flag burners get attacked by bikers[W:634]

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Everyone has their priorities

for some, the constitution and the rights it protects come first

For others, the constitution only matters when it protects.people they agree with
Oh I can see that. Rather sad reflection is it not.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

True, cops should have turned around and opened fire to protect old glory.

Now now; there's no evidence that these individuals were identifiable as hippies.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Leave the Stars and Bars alone! It deserves to fly high and proud.

It is legal to burn it! Too bad for you!

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

No problem. I wish I was still down there, but sadly life has taken me out west. :(

Sound like my mom. She was born in Richmond, split time between Miami and Richmond growing up, mainly due to my grandmother's lifelong respiratory problems. Had a career as a flight attendant which took her all over the world, lived in many different places. Ended up in Seattle where she and my dad actually met on a blind date at a friend's backyard cookout. Anyway she hated Seattle and could not wait to get back in the South. My dad worked at Frederick & Nelson in Seattle until he got a job back east, in Charlotte. Mom and I were in Seattle for 2 years after that, trying to sell the house and move to North Carolina. My mom had apparently told dad that we could live within 100 miles of Asheboro NC because our horse at the time, Royal Baron, was gonna be in training with Claude Shiflet, who is now of course semi retired at 83 years of age. Anyway we moved to Charlotte in 1982, and since then I have split time between NC and VA. Richmond is my 2nd home and will one day be my permanent home.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Its legal to burn the US flag also.

Your opinion on those that justify the bikers violence in regards to this?

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Our ancestors fought for what they believed in, right or wrong. Its that simple.

What do you think they fought for? What did they believe in?

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

No I was reminding someone that it was ok to burn the US flag because it was ok to burn the Confederate flag.

Then you condemn the violent reaction by the bikers. Yes?

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

I would gladly burn the confederate flag and enjoy seeing it burn. In fact, we should have large gatherings of people burning this flag by the hundreds. I would drive for hours to attend such an event.

The U.S. flag, not so much. Although it is legal; I would not approve, but I would not get violent over any flag.

It is sad that you think like that.

Yet you would enjoy watching the flag of my heritage burn. Sad.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Of course. There was no need to physically attack them. I can understand their being upset but violence does not help matters.

Thank you.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Well that's a pretty loose interpretation of the first amendment

Well if you do things to deliberately piss people off, dont cry about their response.

So you are all about others doing it. But not your self of course. Please tell me when that even is being held. I will meet you there.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

They believed in state's rights, as in state's right to govern themselves.

The standard answer. But here's the thing:

The Confederate constitution was more limiting to states' rights than the US constitution. Particularly in regards to slavery. Confederate states were specifically barred from being free states, and specifically required to comply with what was essentially a constitutional enshrinement of the Fugitive Slave Act. (also some weird thing about navigation buoys. )

Weenies burn flag to protest cops, get attacked by bikers, need cops to save their asses | New York Post

Now they probably*love*the cops.

A group of flag-burning anti-NYPD protesters needed New York’s Finest to save their skin from a gang of angry bikers who tried to pummel them in a Brooklyn park for setting Old Glory ablaze Wednesday.

The fiery stunt by a few dozen members of the group Disarm the Police led to a chaotic scene at about 8 p.m. in Fort Greene Park, when the activists enraged 40 members of the Hallowed Sons Motorcycle Club by roasting the flag on a tiny barbecue grill.

“They took off like little b—hes,” said one biker. “They lit the f–king flag and took off running once they got slapped once or twice.”

The anarchists had announced on social media that they had planned to burn the flag in protest of NYPD policies, drawing a large group of flag-waving counterprotesters, including the bikers.

While it’s illegal to openly burn anything in Fort Greene Park, the self-styled anarchists managed to find a loophole in the law that allows cooking in closed barbecue grills.

Thus, they started to roast the flag, but they didn’t burn it for long. One of the bikers rushed forward in a fit of rage and kicked over the grill, sending embers flying. He then doused it as members of the pro-flag crowd chanted “USA! USA!”

The bikers then started trying to rough up the protesters — who were quickly saved by members of the same police force that they criticize.

The protesters were shielded by the cops and escorted out of the park.

“I served in the Marines,” said counterprotester Brian Christopher, 23. “We defend this flag. We are ready to die for it. When I see people burning it and showing complete ignorance, it’s very offensive.”

No arrests were made in the scuffle, and the group’s flag-burning stunt went up in smoke.

burning flags is uncivilized, but attacking someone for extremely expressing their opinion is also uncivilized and illegal.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

People that freak out about flag burning need to get lives.

It's just a piece of cloth.

There is no flag I can possibly think of that would bother me to see getting spat on and then burned. To me, all flags mean almost nothing...especially those that have no words on them.

Though I am very concerned about people trying to stop others exercising free speech and freedom of expression.

I have no desire to burn a flag (or even own one). But I am totally against others being forcibly stopped from doing whatever they want (that does not physically hurt/threaten someone else) to the flags they own.

As a matter of free speech, rights and logic you are correct. Nonetheless, I know men who have killed and men who have been killed under that flag; free speech, rights and logic do not encompass all my views on the matter.

They change what our flags stand for. 100 years ago our flag stood for Australian nationalism, now it stands for diversity. I'm sure it's the same with yours.
