Flag burners get attacked by bikers[W:634]

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

WHAT isn't that big a deal

The whole incident. No one got hurt, and burning the flag has nothing to do with police brutality.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Ummm, that's not the Stars and Bars...this is:

Wrong again. There were three Confederate national flags (and variations of each), none of which were the Bonnie Blue Flag or the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. However, the Stainless Banner and the Blood-Stained Banner (second and third national flags, respectively) did have the battle flag as the canton.

Guess yer ol' granpappy didn't l'arn ‘bout the flags of yer "heritage". Lost Causers should know these things. :lamo

I know there were 3 national flags! Still some do consider the Bonnie Blue to be the real flag :)

Didn't your grandfather teach you about the Confederate Flag? The one who said that slavery was the best thing that ever happened to blacks?

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Funny. England should have supposedly done the same to the Founding Fathers.

LOL, England lost the war. It's sort of a key point.

The Founders signing the Declaration of Independence knew they were risking their lives by doing so.

Yep, you continue to miss the point, by miles. Either that or you are missing the point on purpose.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

The group is called "Disarm The Police"? didn't they used to be the group called "Remove All Your Door Locks"?

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Wow. That's pretty offensive. And about the biggest red herring I've ever seen on this place. You might want to rethink that post.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Please link to what was violent.

One old guy got made and pushed punk kid down. What I mean by 'punk' is literal a punk (Mohawk, listens to punk, but not good punk; that lame ass **** about anarchy). The old guy perhaps was a bit worked up but nothing really happened. The rest of the punks were chased away by cursing people and the police. And FFS
burning a American flag as a protest isnt peaceful. It was a troll tactic to get people pissed off and if all goes well the cops will beat some protesters. That is what Anarchists are trying to do at every protest that they show up at.

you present that this was NOT a peaceful protest because the protest pissed other people off

what we are left with is an infantile perspective that because someone has an opinion different than one's own, that said difference gives justification to commit violence against them

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

What?

Just because something someone else does offends you is no justification for physically attacking them.

Our system is based on a right to self-defense. There is no right of "aggressive-offense."

You can express yourself by jeering, shouting people down, counter-protesting, suing in court if you can show libel or slander, etc.. There are all sorts of non-violent ways to counter freely expressed opinions that you do not agree with.

Kicking someone's ass is not one of them.

I don't like it when people burn flags. But if they bought it, they have a right to do with it whatever they will as long as they don't endanger anyone else physically, or other people's property.

I've lost friends and relatives defending that flag and what it stands for. I've never been around anybody burning the flag, and I don't seek out a confrontation. However, if I should run into such a thing, I will do something about it. They have a right to express themselves, and I'm honor-bound to defend that flag for the best it represents. For me, it's fine to express displeasure with this country - a fundamental right I respect. Burning the flag is pissing on the graves of those who gave their lives to support those fundamental rights, and I don't respect that at all. If an individual can't find another way to express their displeasure over this country's actions and core values, they should understand that there may be consequences, legal or not. Some fundamental beliefs transcend law and land squarely in the realm of human decency.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Seeing as how Government didn't do anything to silence these people, no violation of the First Amendment took place.

And firing a judge who won't do his job doesn't silence them either.

However, assault cannot be justified. It's a sickness for those who think that the exercise of rights should be met with physical violence.

Good morning, humbolt. :2wave:

Very well said, and I think most people agree with you! It's disrespectful and cowardly at the very least, and probably very hurtful for the families that had to bury their loved ones who died defending what that flag stands for. We had a draft at one time, so many had no choice but to serve in our military, but they went and many died, as all the rows and rows of white crosses in cemetaries across Europe remind us. It makes me cry to see them, and yes, I also find it offensive and would do whatever it took to stop it. Enough is enough!

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Strange story. They burned the American flag in "protest of NYPD policies"? Weird.

yes. and ineffective. but they had a right to peaceful protest. the bikers had no justification for perpetrating violence against them for that stupid and pointless but peaceful protest

I didn't say anything about the right to a peaceful protest, or their right to any kind of protest for that matter, or what the bikers did.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

If the flag is what we stand for why is it legal to destroy it?

please look at the position you are embracing:
... They have a right to express themselves ... If an individual can't find another way to express their displeasure over this country's actions and core values, they should understand that there may be consequences, legal or not.
you are advocating the legitimacy of illegal violence against peaceful protest
THAT is un-American. that is NOT what we stand for

yes, they were disrespectful. but that is not illegal. that is a legitimate form of protest. in my youth it was disrespectful for black people to eat at the same counter as whites. to use the same bathrooms and drink from the same water fountains. and because whites felt disrespected, they committed violence against those peacefully protesting blacks, who objected to such dishonorable treatment. and you would still tell us that such violence against peaceful protesters is justified?

i know that

which is why i shared that with you to place your comments in perspective

you're welcome

No, you quoted me and droned on about something I never commented on. All I commented on was the flag burning in protest of NYPD policies. Period. For some reason you think I was interested in your opinion of the bikers, peaceful protests, etc. I wasn't interested in your opinion of those subjects any more than I was interested in anyone else's opinions on them. I'm sure a lot of other people may be though. Not sure what the "you're welcome" was for, justa. I didn't thank you for anything.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Because when you buy a flag it becomes your private property. I can not destroy your flag, but I can do with what I wish to any flags I purchase for my personal use.

I can draw a flag, sew a flag, make a flag out of macaroni. We do not behead someone for drawing or 'defiling' an icon....even the flag.
