Iran Opens Campaign to Lay Blame on U.S. if Nuclear Talks Fail [W:96]

Re: Iran Opens Campaign to Lay Blame on U.S. if Nuclear Talks Fail

Would you like to deny that the US will be blaming Iran if the talks fail, hmm?

Well, Iran is the one denying any access to military sites or other key nuclear facilities. So technically, it would be Iran's fault if talks fail.

Re: Iran Opens Campaign to Lay Blame on U.S. if Nuclear Talks Fail

But why must the end result in this situation be war? Wouldn't keeping the sanctions in place be more reasonable than fighting Iran when we opened these negotiations in the first place? Why should failure to reach an agreement necessitate going to war?

Try again. Not advocating war as the first or immediate action, have I?

I disagree. You may think so, but that's hardly the only option for engagement that's typically used. While military action may always be on the table, it, most appropriately, is the last one used by either side of the political isle.

Military action must always remain on the table as the last resort, and many from both sides of the political isle have said so, and have acted in accordance with that principal.

If you don't keep that final military option on the table, all you'll be is a paper tiger, and you'll have the level of international respect from both enemies and allies a like that Obama has managed. "speak softly, and carry a big stick."]

Nor have I claimed that you've advocated such. All I'm asking is why should war even be an option in this case since it was the U.S. who broached the idea of getting Iran to pull back from their nuclear ambitions? If they don't pull back, why would war even be an option when all we'd have to do is continue doing what we've been doing - maintaining or strengthening the sanctions against them?

I can certainly understand having the military option in other situations, but since this was an issue of our own doing, I fail to see a reason to go to war just because either side pulls out of these negotiations.

You've not read the statement of mine below.

Again, you've not read my statement below. War is always on the table, and always the last possible option.

No one advocated going to war just because they've pulled out of negotiations. But if Iran does develop, or comes close to developing, nuclear weapons, it's likely that either the US or Israel (or possibly someone else) is going to bomb those facilities to stop that progress. I can't think of a single nation that would rather have Iran with nuclear weapons. Can you?

I have read your statement three times now. What's the difference between "a call for war" and exercising a "military option"? If not all out war, what is it? A military blockade on Iran's sea ports? And what would that get us? How long do we not engage before we do engage with full military force?

I think even considering any type of military option over an issue WE initiated (re: nuclear reduction negotiations) would be just as foolish as going to war in Iraq over WMDs we couldn't verify they had beforehand.

No, not really. But the world didn't come unglued when Pakistan and NKor got nukes. I think we can survive Iran although it wouldn't be ideal.

Iran got what they wanted, and they didn't have to get pinned down by signing anything. The sanctions have been lifted; they've been given delay after delay in agreeing to anything important; their people still chant Death to America; Russia supposedly took their excess uranium, but left them enough "to provide electricity for their people," or to make one nuclear bomb, which is really all they need; they were able to make an announcement during Ramadan, which was very important to them; they still sponsor terrorists; and they still want Israel to disappear. All in all, they should be happy. What did we get?

No one is calling for war, limited military action nor all out war, however, those options MUST remain on the table, as possible responses.

If not all out war, what is it? A military blockade on Iran's sea ports?
A possibility should continued aggressive Iranian naval actions continue.

And what would that get us?
It would escalate the situation to the point where the Iranians may relent.
How long do we not engage before we do engage with full military force?
We are engaging now in negotiations, but it seems that the Iranians are not serious and making a game of it.

Sadaam used chemical WMDs in the Kurds. So they never had them? really?

Different countries and different situations. They are not comparable.

We get told we are "arrogant" by Iran.

To a leftist, this somehow seems like a good deal. :doh

It's a game of chicken, and it looks like Iran won this one! And we're the arrogant one? Are the other countries that were in on the negotiating process also arrogant, or are we somehow "special?"

I'm glad to see DP up and running again!

Apparently, and this is no doubt the fruit of more Obama "smart diplomacy". And they are still trying to illegally buy nuke weapon parts, as recently as last month.

Yup glad DP is back up. I didn't even know it was going down.

Re: Iran Opens Campaign to Lay Blame on U.S. if Nuclear Talks Fail

Why, should they? Have you read the treaty and looked at the members list? Have you read the SC resolutions? That would make discussions much easier.

Seems.

It seemed that Israel and South Africa worked together on nukes. It seems that Israel has nukes and has allowed ZERO inspections (and I do not care that they did not sign the NP treaty). It seems that Iran is being hounded because they actually signed the NPT. It seems that Israel kills roughly ten times as many innocent Palestinian civilians as the reverse. It seems America is staggeringly hypocritical in that they can have all the nukes they want and they actually killed over a hundred thousand people with theirs long ago, but Iran is the evil, boogie man.

It seems to me that this is an example of incredible hypocrisy in that - sure Iran is no great country when it comes to human rights. But with Gitmo, rendition, illegally bombing countries at will, invading countries at will (without a declaration of war) and on and on...neither is America. And do not even get me started with Israel's pathetic record on human rights over the past 30 years or so (of course they treat Jews like gold...It's just a certain religion their leaders clearly hate. Sound familiar?)

As I see it...Iranian leaders suck, American leaders (of both parties) suck, Israeli leaders suck (worse then American leaders - not sure in comparison to Iranian leaders). BUT the American leaders are so powerful that they get to have nukes and let their friends have them as well BUT they do not want those they do not like to have them. So the Iranian people are screwed royally (with various embargoes) in this regard.

Umm, we get what Obama's negotiations typically results in . . . nothing except additional expenses. Not a good negotiator he.

The results is always the same-failure. More specifically failing and finding ways to feel good about it.

Finding ways to make it sound like success.

In college my roommate had a cat, it was brain damaged from too much acid I think. It would try to climb the curtains and for some reason fall. Even funnier was the way it sort of landed on its feet, then audaciously sat and looked proud like it had intended to fall, as though having scored a perfect 10 in gymnastics.

Obama even looks like that cat.

Why not? You could always donate them to someone - like me, for example!

I would have been happy if they didn't show "likes given" and "likes received." In my case, I give likes on the funny pictures thread, and all the political cartoon threads, and the joke pages, etc, and it looks like I've gone berserk when I really hadn't meant to do that - it's not like you can show appreciation for cleverness any other way!

Wow I had a roommate who would give his dog beer, which would make him kinda moan and then sleep heavily for a while. Never heard of a cat on acid.

Sadly, too many people are content with "we were trying to help" being an acceptable answer-while it sometimes is, very often its a license to be reckless.

I have no idea if the cat was acid damaged, but the roommate was.
