Iran-flagged ship targets U.S. Navy with laser

That is part of the problem that it could, however, get around, if we all agreed on a robust and dependable method.

You mean you're an advocate for the UN to become militarized so as to be able to enforce the will of the UNSC.

Why should we care about Iran's version? It would not likely be the truth.

Correct.

We americans are very lucky that our government has such a solid reputation for truth-telling.

Yep, because of their superior firepower, the Iranian navy is just itching to get into a shooting match with the US.

As the naval warfare service branch of the Islamic Republic of Iran's armed forces, it has traditionally been the smallest branch of the Iranian military and is tasked mainly with securing Iran's ports and coastline. Over time, the Iranian Navy has changed its mission to primarily anti-piracy...............

People stupidly poke sticks at tigers too. And if the ship is crewed by people who don't have an aversion to dying for their cause..........

We don't even know if this happened. We don't know if it happened, but wasn't an Iranian ship at all. I can buy an Iranian flag on line. We do know that there's a significant number of people that can't wait for Iran to be the next ME country that we wage war against.

I'm not one of those. I've had my fill of dead kids. But you can't dismiss simply because it would be courting suicide for them to do it.

I do believe all this started with Obama giving back several hundred billion in sanctioned funds. And the oil is now flowing to Europe again so they are happy

Since the Iranians were adamant about the sanctions being lifted on the same day that the agreement was signed, what are we still negotiating if the agreement is a done deal? Have the other countries involved also lifted their sanctions? Is Kerry back home now?

That's good news. I'm not dismissing it, as I said in my first post, I'd like to hear Iran's side of this. At any rate, Iran's not going to attack a US naval ship with a merchant ship. Hell, they're not even going to do it with a navy ship. Though if and when we get ready to go to war with them, I'm satisfied that we'll be told that they did that. Or maybe they'll scare us with that line, "do we have to wait for the smoking gun that comes in the form of a mushroom cloud over a US city"!!!!!!!

Hey Pol. There was a lot of shouting and finger pointing at the last session and John Kerry essentially told Iran, look, this is the best deal your going to get, take it or leave it. Iran is accusing the US of moving the goal posts which Russia seems to agree with. The deadlines been pushed back five times. Seems like we should really have something Monday, and Obama's already said he'll walk away before agreeing to a bad deal.

I wonder when the US will get as tough with Israel about its nuclear weapons ?

Oops I forgot ....Ssssh we are not allowed to bring up that blatant double standard on what is primarily US forum

I agree with you on that. Obama's been as tough on Israel as any president we've had, and don't forget, for 75-80% of Americans! Israel can do no wrong, so unfortunately it's a heavy lift for a president to deal with Israel as we ought to. How do you folks in the UK (the citizenry I mean) feel about Israel in this regard? I did see that Cameron called Gaza a prison camp.

Correct.

I don't believe a word our government says. What does that have to do with my post?

Greetings, Montecresto. :2wave:

Then how has Obama released several billion dollars to them with no agreement signed? Granted, it's their money, but I thought the sanctions were put there to obtain their cooperation at the negotiating table, which we apparently haven't gotten yet.

Hi Polgara! Apparently it was a time capsule, released over the course of time to keep them at the bargaining table. I even think that there has been some loosening of some sanctions along the way. But people need to understand how important it is that we succeed in getting a deal. Russia and China WILL NOT be on board for any US military adventure in Iran. And that's not true that we haven't gotten any co-operation from them. We tend only to hear about the things that are being bucked by them, nobody much hears about all the things that Kerry has succeeded in ironing out with them.

Most people here that have an opinion on it are pretty solidly in support most of the Palestinian grievances with Israel . Many in our government doubtless are too but would never dare say anything that might upset our relationship with the US. We know Israel is far more important to most Americans than even we are. Why that is the case is a total mystery over here

I have absolutely no idea. This gets zero coverage here, in its place is the war in Ukraine

As another Vienna nuclear-deadline comes and goes, these clowns are painting US warships with laser designators.

Merchant? LMAO. . Probably an idiot with a 5w green laser who didn't know what he was pointing at. Iran has a pretty advanced navy of small fast attack craft... I don't think they would send a merchant vessel to to confront the US navy.

But all of you afraid of the boogeyman will see threats in every shifting shadow.

Painting something with a laser RF isn't any kind of security threat to anyone however much the US would like to talk it up as such

Yeah, I mean why do you paint something with a laser? In classrooms, it's like a pointer. Can you think of a reason that warships use it?

You realize Israel is an ally, don't you? And Iran is an enemy. Obama seems to look at it the other way around.

I would no more believe Iran has this technology then I would believe that a pen laser used in college classrooms to point to key points are actually weapons instead of the lazy action of a professor to actually give a true lecture rather then a power point presentation.

GTFO, Palestinians are bound by hateful anti-semitic dogma from working with Jews, going back to ole mo.

They wont improve their lot till they work around this, and for the record I like KFC.

Can you back your claim?

Lasers are serious deals kid. Ask me how I know.

What purpose does this ally serve other than to embroil you in its conflicts with its neighbours ?

Yeah I mean why would the have any cause to think that way right ?

This has nothing to do with you and could be mediated by the UN decades ago were it not for the US veto
