(CNN)When Jenny Horne stepped up to the podium to address South Carolina's House of Representatives, her first words let on that she was fed up. Just not how fed up.

Of the words stirred by passion in Wednesday's debate that eventually led lawmakers to vote to remove the Confederate battle flag from the statehouse grounds, hers would burn themselves into memory.
Horne started out with a calm complaint.
"We are going to be doing this all summer long," she said, after stepping up to the microphone, referring to a stream of amendments that the flag's supporters were adding to the bill and effectively delaying a vote.

Right on Jenny. Nailed it!

I always feel so uncomfortable when people get so emotional... It's my ingrained/brainwashed masculinity that sees it as weakness.

it's just that... if your crying... I don't want to hear it, you're too emotionally invested and have gone out of control of yourself. Calm cool intellect and reasoning is all you need.

Anyway... good that they got it taken down it seems

 Jesus Christ woman, get a grip. The man was crazy and I assure you banning an inanimate object won't change that.

I suggest to you that she's a wee bit closer the issue than most. Like it or not, that took guts, especially from a republican.

Because you yourself have no emotions or that is what libertarianism is supposed to do for one - turn them into an unfeeling Mr. Spock wannabe?

I get emotional... but not when debating or trying to get a point across...as soon as I do, I lose.

You're not going to get anything but an eye roll from me if you're crying for some inane reason.

You're under the impression that she's talking about banning the flag?

From the grounds. Either way, Jesus could this woman be more irrational? Not only did she lose it just for the show and thought it would have an effect, but her justification was just ignorant.

If not for the Confederate flag, Dylann Roof would have been a lovely young man.

Getting emotional never does any good in a debate.

Emotion overcomes reason, and reason is what keeps us alive. In this case, in another setting, mental health workers would be restraining her, but here, it works, and it convinces others of the need for whatever is being argued...beyond reason.

When I encounter such over the top emotions, I feel I am being manipulated. But then I have seen this whole flag mess as one big manipulation and diversion from the real problem. There are not going to be less shootings mass shootings because the Confederate flag was removed from the SC state house.

The idea that a human being can somehow magically separate themselves from their emotions is simply ridiculous. The views you hold today are formed by all that makes you up and that includes your own emotions. You can pretend that you are a version of an antiseptically cold Mr. Spock and your inner computer is free from all bias and prejudice and emotion - but it is simply not true.

When I see right libertarians or hard conservatives brag about not letting their emotions impact their political decisions I simply have to laugh in contempt, scorn and derision. If you believe you can do that you are only fooling yourself.

Lets hope nobody cries for "some inane reason". That is simply a sign of emotional instability.

Well that is what this woman did.

Well that is what this woman did.

Why do you find her reason "inane"?

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

Why do you find her reason "inane"?

Because it is stupid....The flag did NOTHING to make anyone DO anything.

It might or might not have been for show. How could you know? And while a few minutes in she cited the shooting as justification, earlier she talked about how her fellow representatives viewed the flag as a symbol of hate. When half of your (capitol) city sees it as a symbol of racism, are you doing your job when you refuse to take it down?

Ah - I see. So because you disagree with here over an issue of public policy regarding the Confederate flag and what it may or may not stand for - that makes her reasons somehow someway INANE.

It appears your response is an emotional one.

But thats okay.:2wave:

What proof does she have to support her case? That a few people view it as offensive? So what? A few people probably view the American flag as offensive. It's stupid to reference a few people and then follow that up with proclaiming it should be removed.

And while I don't know if it was done for show, I do know that people do that crap when their case is weak and they are feeling they might not get their way. The evidence just suggests that it was fake and for show, sorry.

Only if the emotion is laughter....I mean really now....Come on....

Ok, so lay out for us just how the flag made Roof do anything?

I never claimed it did. I do however think that others have a perfect right to believe that based on how they view the history of the flag and its seeming importance in Roof's postings and views and actions. And holding that view does not make it INANE.

Well, South Carolina's government is in a impossible situation. They are damned if they do take down the flag, damned if they don't. I think outside sources go invested way to much in this whole event, and now all of the attention has been taken off the victims and their heartfelt forgiveness for what the shooter did.

That should be what the Charleston shooting should be about, a community coming together and to forgive the shooter in a true Christian way, but instead, outside sources want to make it about a flag. . .

Got to love how we tear ourselves apart over something so stupid. . .

(By the way, my bias is to keep the flag there, just FYI)

They have the right to believe whatever they want, but they don't have a right to their own facts. Even if the flag didn't exist he would have still killed those people.
