Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse[W:79]

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

The flag represents the killer's heritage, too.

Yep, there are racists in Utah as well you know?

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

Of course it did. Stop it. It made Dylann Roof kill people. He wouldn't have killed anyone if they had removed that flag from the statehouse.

And if Son of Sam's neighbor hadn't bought a black Labrador Retriever, David Berkowitz would have just been a big cuddly teddy bear all his life, and not terrorized New York City for an entire summer.

If not for the Confederate flag, Dylann Roof would have been a lovely young man.

And taking that flag down means what...there are no more symbols to motivate racists, am I right?

He wouldn't have killed all of those people if the dog had not spoken to him. Just like Dylann Roof wouldn't have killed all those people if not for that flag.

Straw. It's cheaper in bulk.

I can tell you how the men will react. Another emotional woman.

I'm sick of correcting that drivel. Anyone else want to go over it again?

History will not be "corrected" no matter how you try. Give it up.
Or you could go back in time and convince the Dixiecrats to use some other symbol for their segregationist banner of race hatred, that would be a start. Don't just stand there.... get moving. Find a Delorean or something.

Ah - I see. So because you disagree with here over an issue of public policy regarding the Confederate flag and what it may or may not stand for - that makes her reasons somehow someway INANE.

It appears your response is an emotional one.

But thats okay.:2wave:

Some people would say that she is enabling bad behavior. She seems to be implying that she understands how some inanimate object can cause someone to do a violent act. No one should justify bad behavior because of an inanimate object.
But, I guess that is the country that we live in.

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

They have the right to believe whatever they want, but they don't have a right to their own facts. Even if the flag didn't exist he would have still killed those people.

They have the right to believe whatever they want. What they do not have the right to do is to tell me that I must believe what they believe, or that I cannot have my own beliefs. Nor do they have the right to an offended free life.

The fact that this nut had a battle flag somewhere on his clothing had nothing to do with him shooting up a church.

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

I'm not on the target list to be happy. This is for the black people. If they're happy, then good for them. I never knew anyone who owned a slave. I also never knew anyone who was a slave.

You are also in New England and apparently too young to remember the 1960's South and how that flag was in every crowd that gathered to intimidate Blacks. It became the battle flag for segregationists and any other meaning it once had was overshadowed and forgotten.

I get the feeling that she is a little narcissistic.

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

I would have voted to keep the flag just to spite her whiny emotional retard ass. Get yourself together, woman.

In other words you would have voted to do the right thing to support her! Thank you!

Re: Jenny Horne's tearful Confederate flag speech shakes S. Carolina statehouse

The South spit on the US flag and replaced it with their own confederate flag of slavery.

The flag in question was not the confederate flag. It was a battle flag.

Was the battle flag ever used in a real battle?

Yes it was. From late 61 to the end of the war. By the army of Nothern Virginia.

Does it matter?

I believe that it was the battle flag of Robert E. Lee of what they called Northern Virginia.

So inanimate objects do not influence, effect, impact or play any role in the actions of people?

I'm 53. And I live in New England now, I'm not from here. Does one have to live in the area being discussed in order to have an opinion? If that's the case, then everyone needs to stop talking about slavery and the Civil War, considering none of us "remember" that time, either.

Someone used THIS symbol of hate...

to stick a bunch of Japanese folks in interment camps.

Interning Japanese-Americans during WWII was a very bad thing. At least we fed them.

The Union POWs were not fed during the Civil War. There are some photos that don't get shared very often for the obvious reason that you will understand if you ever get to see them. Grown men weighing less than 70 pounds, and dying slow, are not very attractive.

True, the Great Confederacy didn't even have enough food for their own troops. But to take prisoners and deliberately starve them to death is very similar to what the liberated Jews looked like when they were released from the death camps.

Inaminate objects obviously influence people. However that fact does not lead directly to a battle flag causing someone shooting up a church.

It's more likely that this kids mental state influenced his politics rather than his politics leading to his craziness.

The union also had its share of bad POW camps.

Check out Camp Douglas.

The importance of that flag to Root was obvious and meant something to him as it played a major role in the pictures he posted and wanted others to see.

We disagree about his mental state and politics. I am of the opinion that some crazy people embrace extremist politics because they are crazy. Other people embrace extremist politics and become residents in a reality other than the one the rest of us live in and live in a delusion of their own making and that is what makes them mental ill.

I imagine it would take a professional and a good deal of time and study to find out which is which.
