Today, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, who as of-late has gone relatively gaffe-free, uttered a phrase that may not go over too well with the constituency he wishes to reach.

Does anyone on this forum agree with Mr.Bush?

I don't. I'm retired now but most of my life I worked 7-days on, 7-days off, 12 hours a day. That's an 84 hour week. How many more hours does this guy think that I should have worked?

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP.

Sounds more like 42 hours per week on average, not 84 as you say. Also sounds like some hometown rag took his words out of context. Labor force participation is low and many are working part time. Looking at it that way he is correct. GDP growth depends on more workers X productivity growth. Just math that partisans want to distort.

Whoa! Wait a minute! Jeb said he can "fix" America's health care if everybody (well, except the poor) only had an Apple watch.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

Well, given how a vast portion of the jobs that have been "created" have been part time, my initial guess would be that he was referring to 40 hours.

Of course, many part-time jobs are combined with other part-time jobs to support a family. Sometimes up to three or four. Which Jeb's brother said was uniquely American.

Saudi oil money can certainly give you a divorced perspective from the American experience.

I am not into conspiracy theories. I do not believe the administration is lying when they say millions of people are working part time but want to work full time.

And it should be noted that it appears this quote could be out of context because he does not specifically note that he is referring to individuals working more than 40 hours, but there is one primary reason why this comment comes off so bad and that is the fact that Americans already work more than any other industrialized nation.

Americans Work More Than Anyone - ABC News

There have been studies that show Americans already work more hours than people in most other Industrialized countries. Pretty
sure not more than Japan tho.

And why should Americans work more for 'the same' standard of living? Or maybe even less? Nothing like accepting that the economy sucks...just tell folks to suck it up and get used to it! Great platform...I hope he runs on that :)

Americans already work longer hours than the rest of the industrialized world. We take less vacation. We are poorer, sicker, more stressed, and less happy with our lives than the rest of the industrialized world. Further turning Americans into serfs for billionaire owners is not the correct vision for this country. It is definitely the one that Bush's billionaire sponsors would like to push, though.

Wrong.

The week that I worked, I worked all 7 days, 12 hours every day. Do the math, that's an 84 hour week.

The only way that Jeb Bush will see the inside of the White House is as a guest.

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV and you think you're so clever and classless and free but you're still ****ing peasants as far as Jeb Bush can see. A working class hero is something to be.

Millions are, but the vast majority are working nearly 50 hour weeks.

The philosophy of people like the Bush Family is keep people hungry and they will work for peanuts. They just want people to work harder and harder for the peanuts they are willing to hand out.

Jeb Bush, like some other Republicans, is out of touch with reality.

Next years election will probably wake him up.

Remember you filthy peasants, just work harder, longer, and faster and you'll make it to the top! It'll trickle down..... Eventually... Maybe....

Link no longer works. Major news companies will do that to a story if it has a major problem.

I wish I had that schedule. I am 84 hours a week plus 50 weeks a year.

Millions are, but the vast majority are working nearly 50 hour weeks.

Not quite:

That only looks at people who are employed.

Here is the percent of the population that is working:

Problem is that there is not enough work to go around.

Wrong.

Every other week. Which average to 42hrs a week average over a year or month or two weeks. Or we could say that you had 21 weeks off a year if you did not have a vacation.

Wrong.
