It will pass but if a few of these monuments to stupidity are taken down because the local community decides to, who is it hurting and what right do you have to resist it? A democratic society has the right to determine what they want memorialized and the Civil war is not immune.
So your theory is if a majority wants something no one in the minority should resist it?

What is so sacrosanct about monuments to dead traitors? I fail to see any Constitutional protection for them. It is amusing that you run to the Constitution to save monuments to those that violated it by leaving the union.

It's perfectly fine for you to resist, loudly too so you can be properly identified and catalogued.

Nobody is glorifying it. The Confederate battle flag isn't about slavery nor was the Civil War. It was about preserving the Union. To many the Confederate flag in the South is akin the Gadsden flag which was the battle flag of Continental Marines (USMC) during the Revolutionary war. Today that same Gadsden flag is an identifier to DHS of what they considered a "American Terrorist".

First, it isn't "the community" deciding to remove these symbols as I see it....What it is are a small minority of vocal troublemakers, in conjunction with liberal progressives in the media using a crisis situation to strike and get what they want even if it is against what the majority of people view it as....Which brings me to my second point, A majority of people see the Flag as a symbol of "Southern Pride", NOT racism.

"Washington (CNN)American public opinion on the Confederate flag remains about where it was 15 years ago, with most describing the flag as a symbol of Southern pride more than one of racism, according to a new CNN/ORC poll. And questions about how far to go to remove references to the Confederacy from public life prompt broad racial divides.

The poll shows that 57% of Americans see the flag more as a symbol of Southern pride than as a symbol of racism..."

If this were a referendum in our state, and not some knee jerk reaction based on appeal to emotion, and media hype then I would support it. But, it wasn't. And the precedent it sets is dangerous. The mix of progressive agenda driven opportunism, along with politicians thinking they are pandering to what "the people" want is sickening. If you don't like the Confederate flag, then don't fly one, don't live in a state that does fly one....It's a big country. Why is it that progressives can't just leave others alone?

I support self determination, just like America does, sometimes. I know nothing about the flag that the separatists in Ukraine fly. And criticizing US policy when it's bad is my civic duty as an American. What are you??

The confederate war flag and corresponding memorials sure as hell aren't erected to shame their cause.

The opposition to the Battle flag on State grounds is not a new thing. The NAACP (you know that small group of "troublemakers") has protested its use for years. It's meaning is very different for black folks in the South and your denial of the flags adoption by segregationists and hate groups doesn't help matters. Where were your protests when the Dixiecrats, the KKK and other hate groups were waving it in the face of black people and chanting "segregation is God's plan"? Is that what "Southern Pride" means to you?
