Subway's Jared Fogle the target of a police raid...

Stop it, John. This is a character assassination thread, and Fogle is guilty. Of what, we don't know...but so what? Gawker has dipped back into Fogle's past and discovered that he rented porn videos to other college kids out of his dorm room. This clearly proves that Fogle is into kiddie porn.

Why wait for facts to come in, especially if a swipe can be made at Fox News, which is the only news outlet reporting?

Schadenfreude: Taking pleasure from someone's misfortune

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to character assassination.

Glee? No not really. But its hard to get a raid without some more than just "some guy we knew" was involved in kiddie porn.

Mmmm... not really. There have been many instances reported in the news of raids being conducted for rather silly reasons, and/or at the wrong house.

Police conduct raids for nebulous reasons all the time. They often don't even raid the right house. I'm in "wait and see" mode.

Your cop hate aside, thousands of raids or searches are conducted yearly without a hitch.

Nothing like a little advanced character assassination to liven up a Tuesday.

Nobody knows why the search warrant was issued but he did know a guy who was arrested for child pornography a couple of months ago so..............
Correct, but as someone already mentioned, he's screwed whether he's guilty or not.

This is unfortunately true. It causes conflict for me because I'm also old enough to come from a time, before the internet, before social media, when reporters and their bosses were good friends with politicians and celebrities who got away with some pretty bad stuff that we regular plebes never heard about until some tell all book decades later. I have to believe transparency and knowledge is better, I just wish the 24/7 news cycle didn't make rushing to judgment such a blood sport.

I hope you're wrong. It doesn't have to be that way.

A certain kind of person takes a hateful glee when a person of "good public persona" falls from grace.

Personally I find it not gleeful but saddening.

And we don't yet know what the raid was about, TMK.

I don't know that it is glee, necessarily... there are just a lot of people who view these stories much the same way they view an episode of CSI. They are convinced they can solve the crime before the show is over.

Unfortunately, the initial rumour is always big letters, front page, and everyone sees it, and the correction/retraction is small print, back page and few see it.

And if the facts come in he isn't guilty of anything.. what then? Really jumping the gun aren't we.

Some surely are. In fact, guilty or innocent, Jared Fogle has been pronounced "screwed."

When your baby gets incinerated in it's crib because the cops came to the wrong house based on bad information that was outdated by over 6 months would you be consoled with: "thousands of raids are conducted yearly without a hitch". On-topic, nothing I said was factually inaccurate and has nothing to do with hate.

Agreed with everyone else. Whether Fogle is guilty or innocent; he's screwed and his life is never going to be the same. Speaking of raids...if thousands of raids go off without a hitch why was the reason for this raid leaked to the public? That's the type of information that should be kept confidential anyway.

Yea, its hate bro. Just say it. Man up and say it.

I always thought 5 dollar footlong was a bad marketing name. :doh

If this guy is found guilty, may he make a fine wife in prison. Still, the article does not say he was arrested.

If the child porn allegations are true, yes.

And if not... even if proven beyond doubt they're not... there will still a sizable number of people who will believe he was/is guilty and that he just got away with it.

It's simply a matter of filling in the blanks in the search warrant application and getting a judge to sign it. Considering that many judges don't even bother to read the damn things it ain't all that hard.

Pretty high profile guy like that? Yea, it was read and probably re read by a court officer and judge. All "I"s were dotted and "T"s crossed.
Lose a child porn case because you didn't read it well enough, your judgeship is over.
Your legal career is over. Heck you may even be charged with misconduct.
Its not like they were picking up a guy that missed his court date for a DUI.
Plus, what did the other guy that was actually arrested say to get them to have Subway boy involved. Either there is something to it, or his foundation guy is a spitballing anything he can to get the heat off of him.

I'm sure the judge made sure that the form was filled out correctly. Whether he looked at the grounds for the warrant is what I'd question. A survey of judges in Iowa - I think it was - was done a few years back and determined that judges spent something line 5-10 minutes reading each. When the chief judge was asked about it he basically said "we get so many of these that we don't have time to analyze them. We assume that the justification is solid."

I have to say I am surprised by the levity of this thread. Investigations of child abuse are really not funny.

It'd be funny if he was an anti-gay senator caught cruising in a public toilet. It'd be funny if he had pulled something like a Weiner, which is both ironic and a bit sad.

But possibly suspected of being involved with child abuse? No, not funny.

Possibly maybe suspected of perhaps there is a chance...

Like I said. His life is ruined.

Yes, and I acknowledge that; that he is "possibly suspected" of being involved, not that he is.

I'm just sort of grossed out that I'm seeing so many jokes based on the assumption that he is indeed a pedophile. I don't understand how that could be funny to anyone.

haven't noticed any levity.

Nobody knows why the house was raided so it is a little early to say it was because of child abuse.

So he knows a guy that got in trouble.

This raid could have been for something totally different.
