He does indeed define marriage, and he did so as a union between a man and a woman that was for life, and made the two of them into one being. He did so by referencing Genesis Chapter 2 (Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh) as the source of defined Marriage "from the beginning". You are correct he also said that divorce was wrong, excepting in cases of sexual immorality (so, if one spouse cheats on another), although he didn't say "divorce" was a "sex sin", he said that if you divorced one person to marry another you were committing adultery.

It is like if I wanted to remain Catholic, but insisted that in order for me to remain Catholic, the Catholic Church needed to adopt Sola Scriptura and get rid of the Pope (I am not an RCC member, simply using the example). My demands are not only unreasonable (everyone else must change for me), but they also indicate a hypocrisy at play - despite my claims, I do not, in fact, want to be Catholic. I want to be something else and call that Catholic, and make everyone else do so as well.

For those who find that the issue is important, if the Church teaching on it is something you can't live with - go elsewhere. Otherwise, don't.

If other Christians can judge another for not being real Christians based on their interpretation of the bible, then this is the perfect thread to have that discussion ....and too, you're not a moderator.

Actually, there are 26 bible verses where Jesus said he was the "Son of God". As a Christian, how come you didn't know that?

He also said He and God are one in the same. What's your point? Do you believe any of it?

We have a forum for that - it's the religious forum. If you want to have the discussion down there, start the thread and quote me, I'll come .

Jesus called himself the Son of Man, He didn't call himself the Son of God 26 times. He did claim to be God, describing himself as the "I Am", describing God as his Father, and not correcting others when they described him as the Son of God or as God.

"Son of God" in the NT

Regardless, His authority is pretty clear when it comes to assigning Gods's picture of how marriage is supposed to function.

    Okay, fair enough.

Here's the full chapter of 1 John 5:

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage...+5&version=NIV

The entire chapter is devoted to saying Jesus is the Son of God and God is the Father. It also says that we're are all children of God. But at the very end it says that through Jesus the Son one can come to know the God... the Father. That's still two separate entities. Also, if Jesus is God then who is he talking to when he's hanging on the cross and asking for God's mercy? Himself? And when God calls down from the Heaven to say he approves of his son Jesus....how does that make them one and the same?
