You see this all the time. Healthy people bringing their smelly dogs into restaurants or libraries or whatever.

Florida cracks down on people posing pets as service animals - Business Insider

june 30 2015
TALLAHASSEE (Reuters) - People who try to sneak their pets into restaurants, airplanes and other public places by claiming they are specially trained service animals could face 60 days in jail under a Florida law taking effect on Wednesday.

Judges also under the law could make the pet owners spend a month working with organizations serving people with real disabilities.

I can see fining them, but jail time?

Fine with me. I am sick of old women and their purse pooches everywhere.

Oh Florida and its statism.

60 days jail time for this? Seriously?

As if there aren't already enough people in jail.

I'm thinking life for jay-walking. However, if you're caught with a stern look on your face at the same time, nothing but the chair will do.

I doubt those are the people who are doing this as it's pretty impossible to pass off a teacup dog in your purse as a service dog.

A dog that makes you feel better having it around makes it a service dog these days.

These are not the dogs which are being called "service dogs" and brought into public places under the guise of being service dogs.

That would be hard to fake, I would think. You have to have an official service dog jacket or whatever. Of course, I guess if you want to spend the money, you could buy one.

My dogs would never pass for service dogs, even if they had jackets. But I love 'em, anyway!

You guys OK with my service pig?

What about my service horse?

OK with my service lizard?

This is Florida. Some folks would pay the fine just to bring their beloved pet with them anywhere. They're far less likely to do it if there is jail time attached.

Or perhaps suspend their drivers's license. But yeah - fining rich people is no penalty.

Wow good thing I have never taken my dog to Florida. She has been almost everywhere I have. Even went to the doctor's office with me once. Didn't have time to get back to the hotel before it was check out time after my doctor appointment which was in the city when I thought it was in town where I was. Needless to say, dog came too, stroller and all. Gave the office staff their laugh for the day no doubt.

What's it to you what's it to me?

Just wondering how hatred comes about towards creatures or people that do you no harm or even make noise. Just because of their existence. So I was wondering: why do you hate animals that do you no harm? Please explain to the rest of humanity how that occurs, whether it goes back to your childhood, whether you associate it with rich people and you have a disdain of rich people, whether you don't like women (since you referenced a woman's purse). Just what is it?

IT;s pretty easy here in WA since you don't have to prove it is a service animal you just have to say it is one.

ohhhh it's pretty easy to fake. I personally know two people who did this so their dogs could fly for free. you pay the fee, get the badge, and just act natural.

let's hope that they also prioritize fixing their election system. they **** that up every single time, and it seems to be a more pressing issue than people pretending to be blind so that they can bring Rover to Burger King.

Men generally do not carry purses and it has been this way since before my childhood. I never expressed disdain with dogs, just people, women in general, who bring them into places that dogs are not generally permitted by operation of law.

Anyone with a working brain cell would know a teacup poodle or a Chihuahua isn't a service dog.

Actually, my wife and I considered getting our doxie mix certified as a service dog. When she sleeps, she needs some thing worm and soft to cuddle up to or she simply cannot get to sleep (unless she is utterly exhausted). At home, I take care of that job, but when she would travel by herself, having Blue with her would have substantially improved her sleep. Don't underestimate the needs that a dog can fill.
