At least 27 killed in Tunisian beach attack.

Like I said, I know you and I know it was tongue in cheek. We butted heads often when I first joined and then I tuned in to you about 7-8 years ago.

That comment was a hard one when you think of what people went through on that beach.

I can see that. it surely wasn't meant that way, one simply needs to look at londoners in wwII to see a brave and resilient culture.

I go on holiday to the US often and am three times more likely to be killed there than in Tunisia. Does that make me crazy for still going to the US or you crazy for living there ?

If you go to Newark; the South Side of Chicago; Baltimore; South Central Los Angeles; Northeast Washington, D.C.; or any similar place where the only people who are permitted to have guns are criminals, you're nuts. Since I don't live in a high-crime area, I don't worry about it.

I'm sure Tunisia will have its own high crime areas too. So the comparison stands

I grew up in Newark.

If you don't have a criminal record, your chances of being shot are minimal. over 95% of all non-justified shootings involve people with criminal records on people with criminal records.

This I believe was mentioned to flogger in the past, hence, his statement being decietful in facts.

Well, in that case keep your fluffy arse in Tunisia with your Jihadists and I'll keep mine in Destin or Navarre, where I just feel overwhelmed by criminals.

Weirdly Mexico is the favourite foreign destination for US tourists and it has 10 times the murder rate of Tunisia yet it doesn't seem to stop them returning in their millions year on year

I've never been to Newark, but I've been to New Orleans, Chicago, D.C., etc., and you know as well as I do that there are sections of these cities that even the cops don't care to enter. So it really depends on where you're at. If he thinks he's safer with the Jihadists on Tunisian beaches, then he can go there. I'd rather take my chances with the sharks or Vibrio in Destin or Navarre or Gulf Shores and keep my money at home. Being the victim of an Islamist wielding a Kalashnikov never enters my calculus, and I'd rather not have to see gun-toting security in sight on my vacation.

Again, it depends on where you're at. Most of the violence takes place along the border area and is related to the drug trade, while the tourists congregate in resort areas like Cancun and Cozumel. Personally, though, I have no desire to visit Mexico on vacation. About the only thing there I'd be interested in seeing are Mayan ruins. The resorts I can get here or in the Caribbean.

Let me ask you something. If Tunisia is so safe, then why is Britain, along with most of the rest of the planet, flying its citizens out? And why did your government issue a travel advisory against "all travel to" or "all but essential travel to" particular areas of the country? Is it being irrational?

I like the Caribbean too. The only issue I have is that the Islands are all a bit samey so I prefer the far east . Its a pity you guys aren't allowed to visit Cuba because thats a different experience. I visited the Mayan Ruins at Chichen Itza and they were awesome.

There is no ban on travel to Tunisia and indeed many have stayed in the wake of attacks. I've visited many of the areas mentioned and had no problems whatsoever.

There was a travel advice warning for the USA in the wake of the 9/11 attacks too so its not unusual for this sort of warning to be issued once the horse has bolted so to speak

Indeed . The rest of us have learned its barbaric to shoot one another in civilian peacetime in tens of thousands every year

and yet we still have political extremists on all sides, so chock full of hyperbole......

as pointed out to you, if you are not a criminal (and I don't know, maybe this is why you are so scared of the US), you have little chance, of being a victim of a gun crime.

what is it with facts, that you don't want to deal with?

urban myth.

especially among the days of such militarized forces.

and I agree, though seeing the whole antiguan army board a single zodiac to run a drill, was quite entertaining the last time I saw it.

I had a friend mugged at gunpoint after he had just arrived in Miami in the airport car park . Apparently this happens so regularly to foreign tourists there its barely reported any more so forgive me if I take your claims with a pinch of salt.

Right, or your friend was cruising for underage boys and got ripped off. **** happens in the big city. don't know your friend, so, you could be right. ;)

do you have statistics on muggins at gun point, or are we supposed to believe "they say" confirmation bias as evidence of a pandemic of tourist muggings?

There was a period back the the early 1990s when rental cars were targeted in Florida. Coincidentally, this rise in these "smash and grab" and "bump and run" robberies targeting tourists happened after Florida began issuing large numbers of concealed-carry permits. Once the state removed the word "Lease" from these cars and the rental companies removed promotional bumper stickers these robberies declined significantly.

No ban, true, but your government either advises against travel to certain areas or only essential travel. The advisory covers a large area of the country.

Okay, so now you're shifting the argument from the present to what existed in the wake of 9/11. Even then I don't recall foreign governments evacuating their citizens from the U.S.
