    4 years.

The Stars and stripes existed for almost 100 years
85 years, from the date that Document was written - that said All Men are Created Equal.
73 years from when our Constitution was ratified.

when slavery was legal in most if not all of the country.

    Lol...

So why on earth would Lincoln need to emancipate the Slaves in 1863 if it was already " abolished " ?

Well, there were none in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana as those states had earlier abolished slavery (though illinois had a few individual commerical level grandfathering exceptions). Not only were these states slave free, but they were also black free as all three had banned settlement by free blacks. My guess is that abolitionists were few and far between in these union states and any underground railroads did not have any stops.

The Confederate flag (you said "The stars and bars and its "nation" existed for 5 years")
the Confederacy was formed February, 1861

-- the flag was adopted March 1861.
Lee surrendered April 1865. 4 years.

Call me picky, but I am one who likes to get the facts right.

not relevant to the point I was making. the stars and bars existed far shorter than the stars and stripes. that was the relevant point that apparently you thought had to be countered and you did not.

    oh the irony..

Quitt ducking and answer the question.

If " Slavery had already been abolished " in the North then why did Lincoln need to emancipate the slaves ?

And you said this "The Stars and stripes existed for almost 100 years when slavery was legal in most if not all of the country" - which is wrong also.

Trying to sweep the history of the southern states under the rug won't have a positive effect on anything. It sure doesn't address racism. Much ado about absolutely nothing. Beyond stupid.
