When the mayor announces that she is giving rioters space to destroy things, it makes it tough to argue the rest of the country should pay for the damages.

Federal officials have denied Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan's request for a disaster declaration to let the city of Baltimore and the state recover millions of dollars in costs stemming from rioting that followed the police-involved death of Freddie Gray, officials said Friday.

The state and city said they are reviewing their options, including a possible appeal, which must be filed within 30 days.

Hopefully Maryland loses it's appeal. The mayor encouraged this to happen by saying they are giving the looters space to destroy things. Hopefully the residents that had property damage sue the rioters and the mayor over this. And hopefully the residents of that town have enough sense to either have a recall election or throw that mayor out in the next election.

When this thinker mayor made that announcement I was thinking insurance and liability claims to the city would be though the roof. I expect that to happen.

It already has, and historical patterns after such riots show that the tax base including businesses and residents will leave. These rioters really shoot themselves in the foot, and in this case the mayor did the same. Still, dems will gain no insight.

It's good to read:

FEMA Denies Maryland Funds After Freddie Gray Riots - US News

Disaster declarations for civil unrest are rare. President George H.W. Bush declared a disaster for civil disturbance in 1992 in response to the los Angeles riots sparked by the Rodney King beating, but that was the only instance found in a 2004 Harvard University study covering the period 1989 to 1999. Ninety-nine percent of the 570 declarations analyzed were for extreme weather, including fires.

I'm sure there'll be lawsuits but the courts will be pressured to declare the victims lack standing!!!! That's their usual excuse when the law says they have to rule in a way they don't want to. Just like the courts refused to hear birther lawsuits and said the plaintiff lacked standing even when he was a soldier being sent to death by his commander in chief!

The rioters don't care. Most don't have jobs and live off welfare . That's what the rioting is really about. They hope the politicians will throw them some more taxpayer money to calm down.
