Campaigns distance themselves from ‘white supremacist’ leader’s donations

Campaigns distance themselves from ‘white supremacist’ leader’s donations - The Washington Post

The leader of a white supremacist group that appears to have influenced accused Charleston church killer Dylann Roof made thousands of dollars of campaign contributions to various Republican campaigns, according to federal records and news reports. There is no evidence that the campaigns, including those of Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Rick Santorum, were aware of the group’s background and they were moving quickly yesterday to disassociate themselves from it, with Cruz’s campaign the first to announce that it would return money it had received.

Earl Holt III, president of the Council of Conservative Citizens, has given money to the campaigns or Super PACs supporting Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Rick Santorum, among others, Federal Election Commission records show. The CCC Web site is among those mentioned in Roof’s online manifesto. Roof is accused of killing nine people at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church last Wednesday night.
yikes. This is going to hang over the election indefinitely.

I guess you'd have to ask him.

I'd rather ask the candidates. "Why is it a racist, (seemingly?) cultesque loon thinks your installation in government serves him?"

No more reasonable a question than asking why members of NAMBLA give money to Democratic candidates.

There's two parties within the united states that have any legitimate shot of winning a presidential election. Simply because a particular person or group prefers one to the other does not suggest that said party somehow supports, agrees with, or is in line with the fringe views of those groups as the obvious attempt to combine the two is being done here.

All that's going on here is a Godwin-style method of pathetic and disgusting political mudslinging of the lowest order.

while I'm not going to defend Nambla or their ilk,

you are conflating membership with leadership. do Nambla leaders give to DEMs ? (I don't know)

Maybe he's not a one issue voter.
