No, requiring labeling is not regulating what goes into a product. The packing is not part of the product, unless you eat the packaging. Maybe you're doing it wrong.

And how do they find out about the trans fats in products? By mandatory labeling.......
I'll concede that perhaps labeling contributes to public demand. I just find it difficult to believe that, unless a person has been under a rock for the last couple of decades, they were unaware that hydrogenated oils=trans-fat. I doubt people that actually were unaware, read labels anyways.

Trans fats have been severely reduced in many foods. Its probably the right move to phase them all the way out.
This is all rather silly. The real answer is for the Government to employ "Food allocation and delivery". No more need to make choices for your food, Government mandated regimens will ensure all Americans eat a government approved meal and no one, no child no person goes hungry. Instead of a small minority sucking vast resources, the government should, for a better, healthier America bring to each household a weekly food ration. It will be packed with fresh foods, prepackaged, easy to cook meals with instruction in 42 different languages.

This will make sure there is little waste, and all are eating the right way. Truly, this is the only way to make sure all Americans are eating properly. Anything less is obvious to enrich "Big Food" at cost of the children.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

I know. However its still a regulation, and combined with the FDA's message of wanting to limit trans fats in foods, and the public awareness of trans fats and their side effects, you add mandatory labeling.... Usually leads to education, and makes it a lot easier to boycott products based on the amount of trans fats in foods.

Well...
"More than half of consumers in the United States often read the food label when buying a product for the first time. These consumers are also increasingly aware of the link between diet and heart disease.... Consumers' awareness that trans fats in the diet may raise the risk of heart disease nearly doubled over just four years, from 32 percent in 2004 to 62 percent." Survey Shows Gains in Food-Label Use, Health/Diet Awareness

"When purchasing packaged food, how often do you check the nutrition labeling on the package?

That's all well and good, but that still leaves an awful lot of people who don't read labels.

Not really. Why make these half assed efforts at ensuring good when we have the means to ensure all Americans are fed, and fed the right foods? Hell we're doing it with health care. Single Payer Groceries! That's the ticket!

Shouldn't eat these things, I think the FDA can mandate that it's labeled clearly, but not sure about a ban.
We need to get rid of the agricultural subsidies that make all these horrible foods so cheap.

You have built an incredibly tall straw man.

A prime example of government meddling gone awry.

Where is the strawman?

Aren't you one of those folks that think healthcare is a right and Government should pay for it? Well if they are paying for it, shouldn't they be in charge of what their products I mean citizens eat? After all, wrong eating raises costs! And really if Healthcare is a right, so is food, and we could make a much better world if we all ate the right foods. We could eliminate food envy, food borne diseases, obesity, hunger and save millions of animals as we switch to a more sustainable vegan healthy lifestyle. After all, Government knows best...

Everyone, join TheDemSocialist and his push for Single Payer Groceries!
