Dolezal’s statement reads, “While challenging the construct of race is at the core of evolving human consciousness, we can NOT afford to lose sight of the five Game Changers (Criminal Justice & Public Safety, Health & Healthcare, Education, Economic Sustainability, and Voting Rights & Political Representation) that affect millions, often with a life or death outcome. The movement is larger than a moment in time or a single person’s story, and I hope that everyone offers their robust support of the Journey for Justice campaign that the NAACP launches today!

“It is with complete allegiance to the cause of racial and social justice and the NAACP that I step aside from the Presidency and pass the baton to my Vice President, Naima Quarles-Burnley. It is my hope that by securing a beautiful office for the organization in the heart of downtown, bringing the local branch into financial compliance, catalyzing committees to do strategic work in the five Game Changer issues, launching community forums, putting the membership on a fast climb, and helping many individuals find the legal, financial and practical support needed to fight race-based discrimination, I have positioned the Spokane NAACP to buttress this transition.” Rachel Dolezal Resigns As NAACP Leader Amid Controversy « CBS Seattle

Brazenly self-aggrandizing even now.

Its established that your gender is a choice, so why not your race! Can't wait for someone to argue they are a platypus. I'm ok with that so long as they were a fedora.

Delusional, just like a drug addict.

She just can't let it go.

Thinking you are something that you are not or claiming that you are something that you are not does not require everyone else to play along, right Mr. Jenner?

Damn. She's just plain old nutz.

Most definitely the right move.

This women's dumpster rat crazy.

So, let's see if I have this one straight. She has resigned from her position heading an organization dedicated to combating racism because of her race, which she intimates is a choice and not a result of her parents being white.

Just when I thought race relations couldn't get any more bizarre.

And no apology for lying? Classy.

The thing is she was fully qualified for the job without lying about her family history. The NAACP DOES hire non-blacks into positions of leadership.

Comparing her situation to that of transgender people doesn't make sense, though. The consensus in the medical community seems to be that gender dysphoria is genetic or at least affected by the in-utero environment. Culture is not biological. The divisions we draw between societies of different ethnicities are social constructs.

So you can't say you were born into the wrong race because NOBODY is born being wired to associate with one race over the other. It is all societal conditioning. That is different than being transgender. Yes, our particular gender roles are defined by societal conditioning but that inner affiliation with being masculine or feminine is affected by how our brains are wired, which is affected by various biological factors such as hormones, both pre and post-birth.

That said, I don't have a personal problem with someone wanting to identify with an ethnicity other than the one they were born into. But I don't think you have to concoct a web of lies in order to do that.

Both transgender and whatever trans she is are clearly mental and/or genetic disorders.

If Michael Jackson was able to transform himself from a black male to a white female, then a white female should be able to become a black male.

Logically, anyway.

Or at least a black female.

When your children get a job, you don't sabotage them by challenging their qualifications publicly.

If the only way to get that job was to lie, then shame on the liar and the organization with a racial requirement.

Gender dysphoria is definitely a disorder, hence it being a medical diagnosis. Somebody who is transgender is someone who has chosen to treat the dysphoria by bringing their outer self more in line with their mental self.

Transracial? I don't see how something not rooted in biology (culture) can have a biological cause. I am not a psychiatrist though.

Your description sounds like what she did(hair, skin), and it seems like a mental disorder.

Who knows, maybe plastic surgery was next in line.

Just when I was about to change my race to White/Hispanic.....Damn you Rachel!!

I am following the Jenner and Dolezal lead. If I ever fall on hard times and lose my house I will claim that I identify as a rare turtle and that evicting me would be a local extinction event.

Sorry I'm late to the party, does the NAACP have a problem? Since Bubba was the first black President, I'm not sure why Dolezal can't be.

According to her parents she was married to an African American guy before she was pretending to be black and she got a divorce so apparently some seem to think she "Decided to try and be black" because she didn't fit into the black community and that's why it didn't work with her black husband. Either way I think this is amusing and this definitely describes to the letter every single raving "Anti Racist uppity white woman" I've ever dealt with. I am actually not surprised by this at all. If you've ever met a white woman who's dating a black man you'll know immediately that something's just off. She often goes beyond what would even be considered "normal" biased leftism right into irrationality.

A lot of women (of all races but especially white women) simply don't have a culture so they attempt to adopt, often radically so, another peoples culture and defend and attack for it at all costs even when they have no true legitimate connection to it themselves.

Had to happen, this story had no where to go but get increasingly worse.

"There is a wide consensus that the racial categories that are common in everyday usage are socially constructed, and that racial groups cannot be biologically defined.[20][21][22][23][24][25]....Nonetheless, some scholars argue that racial categories obviously correlate with biological traits (e.g. phenotype) to some degree, and that certain genetic markers have varying frequencies among human populations, some of which correspond more or less to traditional racial groupings. For this reason, there is no current consensus about whether racial categories can be considered to have significance for understanding human genetic variation.[26]

When people define and talk about a particular conception of race, they create a social reality through which social categorization is achieved.[27] In this sense, races are said to be social constructs.[28] These constructs develop within various legal, economic, and sociopolitical contexts, and may be the effect, rather than the cause, of major social situations.[29] While race is understood to be a social construct by many, most scholars agree that race has real material effects in the lives of people through institutionalized practices of preference and discrimination.
