Prison employee arrested, charged with aiding escape of two murderers | Fox News
So the female prison employee helped those prisoners from the Clinton Correctional Facility to flee. Didn't the prison authorities check her for professional suitability before hiring her? I doubt it. I'm sure there are a lot more people involved into this incident. They need to check everyone working in that prison to prevent such incidents from happening in future.

My suspicion is that she was having a sexual/romantic relationship with at least one of them. I read in the news about guards getting into trouble for relationships with prisoners fairly regularly. Prisoners have also been known to develop relationships with pen pals and get them to smuggle contraband or assist with an escape plan.

The real thing here mate, is people don't have a sign above their head saying "IF YOU HIRE ME I WILL HELP CRIMINALS ESCAPE FROM PRISON".

There's only so much vetting you can do.

Like Law Enforcement there's a code of silence on top of that, how many alcoholics are beat cops tonight?

More than you'd think.

Besides she has not been found guilty yet.

"Clinton Correctional"

"Hey, we need some media cover."

"I've noticed that."

"What?"

"Nothing. What did you have in mind?"

"Something scary. I need about a week."

"Let me see what I can do."

The bitch looked like Hillary.

I've read of several similar instances. It's certainly not unheard of.

Hey, it's been a tough day. Not my best work.

You are right. Based on what I've learned prisoners can be quite manipulative. It seems like there was something between her and either one of the prisoners. The irony is that she will be going to jail for what she has done while the two bad guys are still on the loose.

I dunno, I think that chick was looking for the fast lane. Her ex-husband said, "someone says nice thing to her and makes her feel good and she goes for it".

I don't think they'll ever find those two guys, ala Escape From Alcatraz. Too much time and trouble for a bust at a 7-11.

But she's screwed.

Yup, this. And she also had a perfectly normal work history, and no record or no indication that this would happen. Her husband works at the prison too and has for some time I believe. She used to be a tax collector.

These things can happen, unfortunately. Even smart people and normal people do inexplicable things.

According ot the link these are the two guys she fell head over heels for:
Matt was serving 25 years to life for the 1997 kidnap, torture and hacksaw dismemberment of Matt's 76-year-old former boss, whose body was found in pieces in a river.

Matt and an accomplice stuffed William Rickerson in a car trunk in his pajamas and drove around with him for 27 hours because he wouldn't tell them the location of large sums of money he was believed to have.

According to testimony, Matt bent back the elderly man's fingers until they broke and later snapped Rickerson's neck with his bare hands.

After the killing, Matt fled to Mexico, where he killed a man outside a bar.

Sweat was doing life without parole for his part in the 2002 killing of sheriff's Deputy Kevin Tarsia, who was shot 15 times and run over after discovering Sweat and two accomplices transferring stolen guns between vehicles.

I say she be sentenced to serve out their combined sentences.

Lovers conspiracy!
I don't believe she made it in the name of love. They could make her afraid and that would be enough.

" Joyce Mitchell allegedly told investigators she had discussed a plan with two convicted murderers that she would pick them up after they broke out of prison and they would possibly kill her husband and flee to an undisclosed destination, a law enforcement source told the Times Union on Saturday.

The source, who did not have direct knowledge of the interrogation, was told that during two State Police interviews lasting 10 hours each, Mitchell allegedly said David Sweat and Richard Matt may have planned to flee to a cabin at an undisclosed location in Vermont.

Her attorney, Keith Bruno, did not respond to a request for comment since Saturday.

Mitchell's husband, Lyle, is a maintenance worker at the prison, the source said. He was initially listed as a person of interest in the escape but has not been accused of wrongdoing.

Last week, Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said Mitchell, 51, could face additional charges but didn't elaborate.

"Exactly how authorities said she helped became more evident each day this week. First, a source with knowledge of the investigation said her cell phone was used to call people tied to Matt, though it's not clear who made the calls, when they did or if Mitchell knew.

Then came word from authorities that she planned to pick up the escapees, only to back out at the last minute. And on Friday, law enforcement sources said Mitchell gave the inmates hacksaw blades, drill bits and two pairs of lighted eyeglasses.

"After the news broke about Matt and Sweat's escape, as well as her possible connection, Joyce Mitchell went to a hospital because of a panic attack, a source said. Her son, Tobey, told NBC that "she was having severe chest pains and she was concerned about that."
"My mom, she worries a lot about everything," he said.

Don't underestimate female logic, mate. They are capable to do all sorts of crazy things when they fall in love. A prison love story doesn't sound like something surreal in my opinion.

"The husband of prison worker Joyce Mitchell visited her behind bars Tuesday for the first time since her arrest for allegedly helping to spring two inmates from an upstate New York lockup.

But an attorney for Lyle Mitchell knocked down earlier claims that he was standing by his wife.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," said lawyer Peter Dumas, adding that his client said, "There's no way I'm standing behind her."

Dumas said Lyle Mitchell simply wanted to ask his wife some lingering questions — in light of reports that she may have wanted the inmates to murder her husband."

Well, until these criminals are caught, this woman has basically jeopardized the lives of every US citizen. Is it ok? She should be in prison, and the sentence should be proportional to the danger she has put everyone in.

"The lovestruck married prison supervisor who helped a pair of coldblooded killers bust out of an upstate lockup was arrested Friday afternoon, authorities said.

At her arraignment in Plattsburgh several hours later, Joyce “Tillie” Mitchell, 51 — who wore a tight, neon green T-shirt, blue jeans and handcuffs — looked despondent and kept her eyes down as she was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond for first-degree promoting prison contraband.

She’ll have to post an additional $10,000 in cash or $20,000 bond for the charge of criminal facilitation in the fourth degree.

The high bail was requested by Clinton County DA Andrew Wylie.

Mitchell was remanded until Monday, when bail is expected to be discussed again."

Is her husband going to bail her out? Is there a home owned, in part by Joyce Mitchell, to put up for bail? Does her husband have to sign to get her out of jail on bond?
