This is good news.Hopefully this trade deal never passes. It amazes that Many of these same politicians who voted for this trade deal do not want to help workers who will lose their jobs as a result of this trade deal.

Obama quest for fast-track trade bill defeated for now in House | Reuters
The House of Representatives on Friday delivered a blow to President Barack Obama's signature goal of strengthening ties with Asia but could try again as soon as Tuesday to reverse defeat of a measure central to a Pacific Rim trade pact.
In a dramatic vote, Obama's own Democrats, as well as Republicans, rejected a program to give aid to workers who lose their jobs as a result of U.S. trade deals with other countries. The measure was soundly defeated in a 302-126 vote.
That was quickly followed by the House's narrow approval of a separate measure to give Obama "fast-track" authority to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. But the legislation is stuck in the House because of the defeat Obama and House Speaker John Boehner suffered on the first vote.
A House Republican aide told reporters Republican leaders hope to try again Tuesday to pass the worker aid portion of the bill. That would allow the entire trade promotion authority (TPA) legislation to be signed into law by Obama, but its chances were unclear.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest dismissed the failed vote as a "procedural snafu" and was confident Democrats would come around to support the measure.
Republican Pete Sessions said Democrats would have to do some "soul-searching this weekend" to figure out the future of the worker support program, known as trade adjustment assistance (TAA.)
"We're going to pass TPA," said Sessions, the head of the powerful House rules committee. "The question is going to be whether TAA is going to be in it."
The worker aid program drew heavy opposition from both parties, with 158 Republicans joining 144 Democrats in voting "no."
Trading partners such as Japan have urged the U.S. Congress to pass fast-track to help wrap up a Pacific Rim trade deal covering 40 percent of the world's economy.

I find it interesting how this trade bill requires a component in it to deal with all the people who will lose jobs should it pass. That little trip wire sure causes me to step back a few paces from understanding what is being attempted here.

anyone see where hillary stands on this?

Hillary isn't taking a stand on much of anything that matters right now. She is pushing some 'feel good' non consequential ideas publicly but otherwise isn't granting any access to the media who might ask questions like that.

Some people would rather stay quiet and be thought of as fools, than speak up and remove all doubt. People who have run for the GOP in the last few elections seem to ignore this a lot.

Well, I would rather somebody stick their neck out and say what they think about something, even if I disagree, than think their name or the letter following their name is sufficient reason to put them into positions of high power. Maybe that makes me a fool, but oh well. . .

That's great, not everybody wants to address the same issues in every election. If you'd like to know Hillary's stances on the TPP, you're welcome to use Google to find it. - Why, I did a 0.02 second search on Google and found this!

Critics have said that the agreement would ease regulations protecting both laborers & the environment, despite claims from Clinton to the contrary: "Our goal for TPP is to create not just more growth, but better growth. We believe the TPP needs to include strong protections for workers, the environment, intellectual property, and innovation," Clinton said at the event in 2011. "It should also promote the free flow of information technology and the spread of green technology, as well as the coherence of our regulatory system and the efficiency of supply chains."

the trade agreement is going to pass anyway and screw over US workers like all of the other ones, but at least it is stalled for a microsecond.

no wet finger in the air of public opinion required. he will tell you where he stands

back to the OP

disappointing the congress would object to providing assistance to Americans who lose their wage earning capability because of the outcome of the trade bilk

having screwed the common working man, watch them make a gift of fast track to Obama and the chamber of commerce

So, from that does she or does she not support the current trade agreement? Can you tell? I can't.

I like that about Sanders too and that is why I can respect him without reservation as a person in a way I doubt I will ever be able to respect Hillary. I am allied with Sanders on even fewer issues than I am with Hillary (at least as she most recently took a position) but my disagreement is with his positions and not with him personally.

Are you in a bandwidth wasting mood or what? If the current goal of the TPP is to do the same thing as 3 years ago, why would her positions on it change?

Export supported jobs exist too you know, and will be bolstered by the deal, not to mention the immense foreign policy benefits. It's sad to see a bi-partisan effort only to submarine good policy.

The goal of three years ago and how the bill was presented to Congress SHOULD change a person's position if the two don't gel. I haven't studied it sufficiently to know what changes have occurred in those three years. Have you? And what Hillary said as a 'loyal' member of the administration, and her position now as a Presidential candidate trying to distance herself from that administration is also fair game to question.

The worker aid program drew heavy opposition from both parties, with 158 Republicans joining 144 Democrats in voting "no."

GOPs and DEMs opposed TAA for opposite reasons.
GOPs are against giving aid to workers who lose their jobs due to trade pacts.
DEMs wanted more aid to displaced workers.

Pelosi has been a huge factor in this House since she DID NOT whip against the Cromnibus last December--saving the asses of both Boehner and Obama .

The international community responsible for this has remained consistent in its stated goals for the TPP. Hillary has only given mentions of support. Whether the TPP achieves its goals or not is another matter but Hillary's support for the TPP is unquestionable unless you have evidence to her saying something else on the matter. I couldn't find anything. What we do know now is that the claim that she's stayed mum on the issue is simply not true.

Is this why the GOP killed the Export-Import Bank?
Since it helps small businesses and is opposed the Koch brothers, Jeb Hensarling and Eric Cantor .

As I've said previously, I found it funny that some of the same people who wanted to give Obama authority to bind the US in a deal with Iran didn't want him to have authority to bind the US to a trade deal. The opposite is also true.

I see no reason why Presidents ask for and receive such authority. Canada is involved in the same process and our government has provided some information related to the deal negotiations and the entire deal will be subject to parliamentary approval. We did similar with our deal with the EU which is currently in the ratification stages and with our deals with India and South Korea, to name two others.

Canada has no fear about opening up agreements with the world - it's the way of the future. If the US doesn't get involved, then the European and Asian markets will have free trade access to the US, through Canada and our NAFTA agreement, without the US having reciprocal access to those other markets.

Yet Clyburn and Hoyer didn't vote no--the #s 2 and 3.
Many DEMs were insulted by the President "trying to guilt people and impugn their integrity".
Kind of like calling Sen. Warren "Elizabeth" and never calling her Senator, as she calls him the President .

she was sorry, but she voted against it

good on her!

According to the WikiLeaks documents that made this secret undertaking a lot more public than the participants intended for it to be, there is mention of multiple drafts following each round of criticisms from participating members. Where is your evidence that each draft is identical to the one that preceded it?

Goals and actual policy are often two entirely different things.

You do realize that the specifics are not what are required for her to state her support. Right? She stated support for the TPP and its intended goals. Whether the specifics actually achieve this is an entirely different matter and up to subjective understandings of the final document. However, Hillary supports its intended goal to further expand and liberalize trade between nations.

Its a little late for that don't you think ?
