Comcast's NET federal benefit = the total additional profits made from the ability to obtain a near-monopoly of the industry as a result of the subsidies and competition-shielding legislation (which were not available to local broadband competitors) - the total federal taxes it pays > 0.

So Comcast is a welfare bum .

In a free market, it is illegal for any govt. to provide special benefits (subsidies, competition shields, etc.) to any business.
Uh, yes. Math 101. Comcast pays billions in taxes. In fact they are #13 in most taxes paid in the US. Im all for getting rid of any actual subsidies (like rural internet) that exist.

But since taxpayers subsidized Comcast and paid for the enforcement of laws banning competitors (i. e. local municipalities) from entering the market, they (we) have a right to determine how it can run its business.

    THE END.
You have to establish that before you hand out the money not after. Its called ex post facto. But it sounds like youre saying we own poor people? Foreign countries?

    THE END.

Uh, so what? The point I made was that Comcast gets more financial benefit from the govt's actions (funded by taxpayers) than what it pays in taxes = welfare.

It doesn't matter if you $30 billion in taxes if the feds give you $50 billion worth of assistance.

How is that possible? How does the #1 and #2 Cable companies NOT compete against either other? There's only 1 way, collusion. They've carved up the country and the neighborhoods so they don't to compete against each other. Which allows them to keep it's customers service crappy while raising prices. And it allows them to drag their feet on offering good, inexpensive internet service. Without the government stepping in things would only get worse.

    Free market my ass.
Point is you don't want it to be a completely free market.. here in UK one company isn't allowed to rule the rooster and this is beneficial because it keeps food prices down for example.

You can test to see if your ISP is trying to mislead you... if say Youtube or Netflix has been poor for you over the past couple of weeks or something because your ISP is rate liming them.

Glasnost: Test if your ISP is shaping your traffic

Run a test and during a test go fire up a Youtube or Netflix video...

The point of this is to check to see if your ISP suddenly widens the pipe to this site or these sites during a traffic shaping test in a bid to display misleading results to you

How so? I don't vote Republican. And you missed the point. If you want to claim some ownership due to a handout, you have to establish that in a contract. You cant come after and say we own you.
