Re: Even Baby Boomers Think It's Harder to Get Started Professionally Than It Used to
Millennials Are Still Struggling to Find Jobs - The Atlantic
Why is it happening this way? Our society seems to be much more prosperous than a few decades ago due to great technological advancement. There are so many ways to earn money by programming stuff or running your internet based business yet it seems like it's much harder to actualize yourself than a few generations ago. What's the reason behind that? How to solve this problem efficiently?
it is something that has been caused by hiring and management practices,as there are quite a few industries very low on manpower, and few to fill it.
i work in automotive, technically automatic transmissions.we have an extreme shortage of techs both as general auto and transmission specialists,to the point one mechanic walking off the job could mutilate profits for months or years.however despite this shortage, small shops will only hire experienced techs, which are rare, and refuse to train new techs to replace them, most of which are baby boomers near retirement.
now dealerships train new techs, but most of them offer terrible pay, offering barely above minimum wage as flag rate, making them supply their own tools, and giving them warranty work where a job that takes 7-8 hours to do,pays 8 hours flag rate, but only pays 2.4 warranty rate.new guys get most of the warranty,so essentially they woork for next to nothing, many making less than if they worked at walmart.
so one side independant shops demand experienced techs with decades experience, the other side, dealerships and some large franchises, train new techs but make it so unnapealing many go through college then leave automotive altogether.
many other types of industries work in the same way, they only want experienced workers not new workers.which only favors them short term.a business looking into the future would want experienced workers and new workers being trained by the experienced, both employing more people and ensuring industrial manpower.now we have some industries importing people from other countries, some not out of cheapness, but because of a labor shortage, most of which could have been prevented.
