Rand Paul: 'White kids don't get the same justice' - Washington Times

“I’ve been telling this story for about a year and a half, two years now,” Mr. Paul said at a Baltimore County GOP dinner in Maryland, Bloomberg Politics reported. “It makes me sad. I thought about not telling the story again. But I think this young man’s memory should help us to try to change things. He died this weekend. He committed suicide. His name was Kalief Browder. He was a 16-year-old teenager from the Bronx. He was arrested, accused of a crime and sent to Rikers.”

“Are we going to let you be raped and murdered and pillaged before you’ve been convicted?” said Mr. Paul, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate. “He wasn’t even convicted! So when I see people angry and upset, I’m not here to excuse violence in the cities, but [when] I see people angry, I see where some of the anger is coming from.”

Kudos to Mr Rand Paul for actually having the backbone to tell the truth on this hot button issue. I don't see it coming from the other candidates right now.

I don't love Rand Paul but I think he's making some very valid and well said points.

Tis true, but because he speaks a lot of truth, the Party Structure won't let him through.

Yes truthful politician is normally an oxymoron.

Is this where everyone has to buy into the BS white privilege nonsense or we all get labeled as racists? Progressive trolls don't want to seriously talk about issues or truths... they need a comment to help further divide and segregate the population for political benefits of their party. Paul is very smart, very poignant and

Thanks to the OP poster for not actually providing any factual information or context such as this from his own link:

The issue is about being jailed without a trial and without being found guilty - and the kid committing suicide because he was jailed illegally.

What are the issues and "truths" that "progressive trolls" do not want to seriously discuss?

But really what can be done (not just in US society but any society)? All societies, the US included, are resource based. The people with more resources get more justice the people with less resources less justice. That truth isn't political in nature its the default structure of all of human society. Getting mad at the US system on this is unfair. It happens in every country on earth. The person with more resources wins. That isn't a US phenomena.

White kids do not get different justice than other races when all other factors are the same. Specifically social status and wealth. You can find plenty of skewed statistics to back up whatever you want to believe, but it is poor people who get hosed in our judicial system, regardless of their race. Green is the only color that matters any more.

Race for one, the myth of white privilege for another. As the OP demonstrated.

He is right when he states black civilians dont receive "the same justice" as white civilians, AKA black civilians get harsher sentences, etc. But I probably will not agree with his policy solutions to the problem.

Seems like an abusive criminal justice system has been something progressives have been discussing for a long time....

Yet the OP describes it dishonestly by attempting to divide people in an attempt to cast racial bias against Paul. They've been dividing people by economic class and race a long time too.

The OP just quoted the conservative Washington Times...

Point taken - that is the title of the Washington Times article. I'll accept that I may be a bit harsh on the OP poster in this regard. I'm not adverse to having a knee jerk reaction every once in a while.

Ironic since both Pauls wants to legalize racial and other types of discrimination by businesses.

I'm not on board with Paul on most issues, and certainly not on the issue you just raised.

I can see (I think) how given his supposedly philosophical view, that discrimination by the government is different than by business.

Meh

Race for one, the myth of white privilege for another. As the OP demonstrated.

I don't think anyone can do any honest reflection about American society and deny that there is a privilege granted to whites in America, especially white, Christian males.

I've never gotten any privilege in my life. Everything was work, everything was struggle. I'm a white Christian male. Tell me how privileged I am due to the color of my skin.

What is a troll? A little evil fellow who lives under a bridge?

Well when you have something specific you want to discuss, let me know. "Race" is like saying "stuff".

It's pretty much right wing dogma to pretend that racial inequality doesn't really exist or is the fault of minorities. Rand Paul must have given up his presidential aspirations.
