You believe this?? Why didn't he break a window?

Texas Man and His Dog Found Dead After Becoming Trapped Inside Car - NBC News

june 10 2015
A U.S. Army veteran from Texas and his dog were found dead after an electronic malfunction apparently caused the pair to become trapped inside the man's sports car.

Port Arthur police officials say 72-year-old James Rogers and his Shih Tzu, named "Baby Girl" Leia, were found unresponsive inside the Chevy Corvette on Monday afternoon.

Police believe Rogers became trapped inside the car with electric locks and windows after a battery cable came loose and locked the doors and disabled the horn, NBC affiliate KBMT reported.

it isn't easy to break a window from inside the car, that's why they make glass break devices that also can cut seat belts in an emergency.

true enough-its why I have a folding combat knife in the console with a "skull crusher" on the butt end-it works well on a window

had enough $ for a frivolous sports car. but apparently not $9.99 for proper emergency gear.
sad.

Me too.

As cars become more high tech I think there will be increasing dangers such as the guy in the OP faced. If your touch screen control panel goes wonky a great deal of excreta could hit the fan.

Sounds like a design flaw to me.
If a person cannot mechanically open the door, that is a problem!

should have named the dog "Lassie"
Lassie saved everybody

and to answer the OP's question:
sure

you find it incredible. why?

There is a manual release lever safety feature next to the driver's seat closest to the door, a feature listed in the car's handbook — but many owners are not aware of it, experts said.

.....

Man! I'm going out to get a car emergency tool today.

Mine clips on the seatbelt. It is a seatbelt cutter and a window breaker. Good to have for emergencies if someone else is trapped in a car and you need to get in and get the person out.

delorean exhibited these problems
mechanical gullwing door
fixed glass
better not allow the battery to go dead

According to the SEAL survival handbook you can use any heavy object in the car as long as you strike with enough force at the center you can break through it- they recommend even using your car keys or if you have nothing just brace yourself sideways and kick it since your legs are stronger than your arms.

Poor guy was 72 years old and trapped in his car, instead of asking why didn't a seventy-two year old Army vet didn't have the strength to break out of his car window, why didn't he have a phone to call 911 or a friend? Or more importantly, why didn't anyone come to help him out?

Yeah, but if you get one up to 88 mph....

Not all 72 year olds are able bodied enough to break a car window from inside.

Thankfully cell phones are pretty prevalent. Also, there was a manual release.

Why not just move the lock from the locked position to the unlocked position? Didn't Chevy put that in the Corvette?

A plain old screwdriver would work, i'm sure.

This is a scenario I am fearful of with my car. It is electric everything. I probably should put a hammer in my glove box at the very least.
