McKinney police said in a statement they were responding to a disturbance "involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave," and that some of them were fighting.

What we see is the lack of professional self control resulting in escalation instead of deescalation of events. Us policing is in really bad shape. Yes, that is so powerful, taking down a bikini-wearing girl. No doubt. BTW, did anyone notice the couple of guys roaming around in the video did nothing to help the kids or calm the policeman down?
Cop was justified, IMO. Kids were being aggressive and threatening.

I amend my opinion. Cop needs to be written up.
Yes, he was alone and needed to take charge of the scene.
But throwing the mouthy girl down, eh. Little much. She was not the only one being mouthy.
One week suspension. Some training on how to deal with actual people being bad, or just kids being mouthy. As kids will.

The cop that's the focus of the video clearly attempted to round up as many Black teens as he could see. That much is evident by the fact that off all the people gathered around - both Whites and Blacks - he only goes after the Black kids. Now, before anyone says anything stupid like, "Well, they shouldn't have been mouthing off or being disruptive or disrespectful, etc., etc" the Black boys he makes sit down curbside weren't running or saying anything at the time he confronts them. In fact, just prior to the incident with the teen-aged Black girl, the cop approaches two Black male teens who were walking away minding their own business and he stops them and even places one of them in cuffs. Why? Could this have been a case of racial profiling, i.e., "I don't know which Black person caused the problem. So, I'm going to round up every Black person I see." It's possible...really can't dispute it since the only people this cop seemed to go after were the Black kids. And there were plenty of White teens standing around as well.

I won't claim to know what started this situation to get so out of control, but I DO know that this cop's actions did nothing to de-escalate the situation.
I understand more about what transpired...basically it was a pool party hosted by a Black teen that got out of control. That would explain somewhat why most of the kids being rounded up (so-to-speak) were Black teens. But like the witness in the Hannity interview said, the cop's behavior was disturbing. He did a terrible job at crowd control. IMO, his actions make things worse.

I will grant you that there were alot of Black teens lingering around and some were confronting the out-of-control police officer. (Yes! He was very out of control especially with his language not to mention his aggressive actions.) But the kids being by-standers and calling out the officer's inappropriate behavior is no excuse for the officer to go around rounding up every Black kid he saw.
I think "out of control police" should be confronted, pity the white adults lurking about didn't question the cops heavy handedness. But then again, we've seen example after example of people being beaten and shot lately for little more than calling into question any police behavior, so I can't say with any certainty that I would have. One officer pulled his gun on a teen, there's always been teens that will get rowdy and even fight, bought police response like I've been seeing was nothing I ever experienced or heard of in the America I grew up in.

Here's an interview from USAToday of the only White person allegedly detained at the party. Her account supports what most people have already said...that the majority of the kids who were detained were Black teens. But when you consider how other teens were trying to sneak their friends into the pool area by passing their invitation/pass over the poor area fence, it kinda makes sense that they were the only people being pursued. That said, this cop's behavior was still uncalled for.

The kids didn't belong there and should have stayed in their own part of town. McKinney is an affluent suburb and I'm sure the locals didn't want a bunch of fighting, rowdy teens who clearly aren't from there causing a ruckus

There's lots of white youth in the video as well, but I suppose its safe to assume that there were only black youth misbehaving at the party. I'm still wondering if the white woman that started the fight and struck a minor is going to be contacted. The teens needed to be confronted on what they were doing there, that there were some parents apparently close by that didn't see to it things were in order is suspect also.

Those kids were under the assumption that they were invited to a pool party.
