There's a strange atmosphere of illogicality and confusion when Russia is raising concern about NATO nations upgrading their defenses reasoning said concern with "you have nothing to fear". Then what is Russia fearing, exactly?
Most likely Russia is fearing a belligerent and mendacious US government, is my guess, not being a Russian.
I know that if Russia were conducting the same sort of operations in Mexico, Cuba or Central America that the US is conducting in Russia's backyard, we would be crying bloody murder.

Russia does arm Mexico, only in 2013 the Mexican department of defense had spent 35m$ on Russian arms imports. Don't see a problem with that, Mexico isn't at war with the US nor will it probably ever be. Likewise, Russia recognizes it ain't going to be at war with any NATO member, so again why fear when they upgrade their defenses?
"The world has changed so drastically that people with some common sense cannot even imagine such a large-scale military conflict today. We have other things to think about, I assure you."
I believe this is true.
Though, it may be true on the face of it and the problems we face are giant, that simply is not the way things work, as anyone knows that has studied how wars begin.
So Russia is in the arms business. It's a big club in the international scheme, but their sales are nowhere near what our numbers are.
I wasn't really talking about SELLING arms, I'm talking about conducting military exercises, as we do over there. Just a few months back the US, I think 173rd, paraded all through eastern Europe.
If the Russians did that in Mexico we would be apoplectic.

What about you? arent you a monster? cause to me you are and i hate you, i really, really hate you, you got no idea.i don't fear it at all; i just loathe it, and especially that monster putin. No reason to believe anything he says
Why fear us? We didn't do anything in Ukraine. And even if we did, we still weren't a threat Russia and it sure as hell doesn't justify what it's doing in Ukraine.
We've killed billions of civilians since WW2? That is Grade-A Bull****.Americans killed billions of civilians in those wars since ww2.
Untrue. A few days ago, Obama claimed that America is respected worldwide again. You cant even understand why the world hates you!
yeah...i'm sure there are many websites with claims that the US was behind the overthrow of the Russian puppet. Maybe we did...maybe we didn't. Still doesn't justify Russia's bulldozing of Eastern Ukraine.Yes, do some research you americans started the whole thing in Ukrain. it's all there on the net,ffs just google it. You say you werent threat to Russia? then why start the whole thing in Ukrain?
We aren't expanding NATO. Countries are voluntarily joining NATO.why expand NATO when NATO isnt needed any more since there isnt soviet union any more?
Which is why he/they prefer to keep conflicts small, as they have been able to do so far."The world has changed so drastically that people with some common sense cannot even imagine such a large-scale military conflict today. We have other things to think about, I assure you."
I believe this is true.
Adolf said the same thing after Germany swallowed Austria and Czechoslovakia.Exactly! Why fear Russia?
Perhaps you didn't focus on the pertinent part of Putins statement!! "People with some common sense"!!!!
Russian President say right i'm totally agree his speech "not to fear Russia" because Russian Government and Public want peace in world and west people frightened to Russia and think that it is not good step to attack Ukraine.
