In case it is absolutely clear:
It's not the cars that killed these children, it's the parents and their absent mindedness.
The article gives a couple other examples of children dying in hot cars, and it seems that in all those cases, no one intended on leaving their children in the cars, thinking it was safe. Rather, the parents simply forgot their children were in the car. Parents must take care of their child! MUST.

I can understand how it happens. While I've never forgotten either of my children in the car alone (I have in a shopping cart for a few steps b4 remembering one of them, though) .. It has happened where they fall asleep in the car and i completely forget about them for a long while. I do remember by the time I get to my destination, though.

Seems an easy fix might be to just tie something to your inside door handle so when you open the door, it serves as a reminder.

This is why the new-ish (newer than when mine were infants), that infants and their infant seats have to be in the back seat is such a bad idea. It's much easier to not see and hence forget a quiet sleeping infant in the back seat, and usually an infant will fall asleep in a moving vehicle.

That's one of the reasons I didn't have kids, I'm too forgetful.

you know, i really doubt that anyone does this even slightly on purpose. we're all so ****ing busy that we get scatterbrained and **** up. it just makes me sick, because i know that there probably won't be a day between now and death that the parent won't think about this and agonize over it. you want to know what hell is like? get exhausted, overworked, and scatterbrained, and **** up like that. it's just a ****ing awful tragedy when this happens, and i hate reading about it.

Scatterbrained? What a load of crap. Lousy parents is more like it.

Great parents put their children above all else and NEVER forget them in a car unattended...for ANY length of time. My mother never left me in a car (or any of my siblings). I lived with a woman who had children and she would never forget her children, no matter how busy she was. Never. Heck, I never forgot about them and they were not even my children.

The only people who forget about their children left unattended in a car are lousy parents...period.

And level of 'busyness' is no excuse whatsoever. Your children - especially if they are pre-school - should always be the most important thing in your lives and nothing should be able to make you 'scatterbrained' about them. Not your job, your friends, your health...nothing.

Feel terrible for the mother but I can honestly say this would never happen to me and should not happen to most parents. My kids are my life and when I get up in the morning ( if im not working nights lol) I feed them before I get fed, I clean them before I am cleaned and they are dressed before I am dressed. I honestly can not understand how you can forget where you child is especially if they are 18 months old.

I can also understand how this could happen. Our brains are imperfect organs and they fail us sometimes, though rarely this catastrophically. I can't imagine the emotions that came over her when she came back to her car and discovered what she had done. I think I would kill myself if I did that to one of my children. The anguish would be unbearable.

Just gotta find someone who complements that

I'm forgetful as hell too. ****, sometimes I forget things people told me just a minute earlier. The good thing is that there is always a partner out there who can rectify that issue.

"I'm sorry your honor. It's just that I was so busy and I forgot him in there! With all this work I'm doing, I'm so scatterbrained!"

Judge's most probable response (in his mind), "What a load of ****ing horse-****. You're ass is getting thrown in jail."

    Most people's response, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That you try and rationalize for something like this is almost ****ing inferior.
