I agree with you all the way, Maybe your point pertains to part of the problem in that our elected officials don't want "educated citizens" because then barely anyone would vote for the lot of em'

'Politics' is a bit generous a term, IMHO.

    'Hysterics' seems about right, though.

All of which goes to show how little you understand what we progressives do, much less why we do what we do.

Perchance you should just not overstate silly things.
You may want to consider there is more than one definition of a word. Perhaps you should avoid looking foolish by proving you don't understand that.

The very least that a civilized and compassionate society can do for those that can't provide for themselves (children and many elderly) is provide food for them. I'm disgusted that the OP referred to children as "brats"

It's like I keep pointing out to the others - if you want a first-world democracy, you have to have big government, high effective taxes, and strong regulation. If you lack any of those three, you will not have a first-world democracy. Every once in a while one of them tries to say, "Singapore!", and then I proceed to show them how Singapore has all three...in spades.

All kids should be able to get free breakfast and lunch from elementary to high school, it's not like they're getting a quality education despite all the taxes their parents pay.

Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Here is an early press release from LA Unified School District

    http://notebook.lausd.net/pls/ptl/do...011%202011.PDF

LAUSD’s Food Services Division provides year round meals for students and has the largest breakfast program in the country. It currently serves more than123 million meals each year. The LAUSD menu meets and exceeds the USDA guidelines and the Institute of Medicine’s nutrient recommendations.
The schools are providing nutritiously convenient food for the kids at their school, where they spend a minimum of 7, and up to 12, hours a day depending on age & activities.

It's for kids who have impoverished or dysfunctional homes on one end, all the way to kids of affluent families who enjoy the convenience of not having to plan finances, logistics, and funding on a daily/weekly/monthly basis with their kids, or have to worry if the kid stays late but doesn't have any snack-food money.

I really don't see your problem with this - feel free to send your kids with bologna sandwiches, if you'd like.

Heck, my kids both went to private prep schools, while I live in the middle of some of the very best public school systems in the country, including my own local district. Even without my kids attending the public schools, I have no problem paying the taxes, because it's reflected in the quality of the young men and women they graduate and the things they go on to do in their lives, and what they add back to the community. A great school system hugely adds to the quality of life of a community.

And good food available to all the kids, nourishing the brains of our future during the critical process of learning, is a good thing from where I'm sitting.
