This problem wouldn't exist if we told women. You want that welfare check, you have to accept sterilization. Still waiting for some lib to explain why that is a bad idea.
Ending poverty is easy.
When I grew up in the UK (many years ago) all children got a school lunch that was sudsidized to almost free, and totally free to poor families. That lunch was nutritionally balanced, having been planned by dieticians. A conservative government scrapped all that, and put in place lunches that were more expensive to the parents, but no longer nutritionally planned, hence cheaper to produce. The result: we had fries every day with either burgers or sausages and baked beans, followed by ice cream. Rarely a fresh vegetable and no more fruit. A lower quality, more cheaply produced meal for a higher price, and less kids qualifying for free lunches. And child obesity rates started to rise.
Some parents do make bad choices. I don't see that their children should be penalised for that. Attack the underlying problems but yes, feed them at school.
Many parents don't make bad choices, but they live in societies where those who are on sickness benefits, unemployment benefits or minimum wage simply can't make ends meet and have trouble putting food on the table. If you're not prepared to radically reform capitalist society and redistribute the wealth more fairly, don't moan about innocent children getting what might be their only decent meal of the day.
