It's a waste of men and money.
I understand your view, and empathize with it-but the world without a US presence will be worse.

War has been nearly constant throughout history, even prehistory. Mankind fights over resources, pride, religion-its human nature. Ironically its the post WW2 peace, thats made things seem like they are bad now. History tells a different story.

How you feel about war (understandably) is not consistent with the reality.

I recognize this fact and want to make the best of it.

We sold the vehicles to the Iraqis, so no Ameeican tax dollars were lost. Plenty of Iraqi tax dollars were, though.

Iraq lost 2,300 Humvees in Mosul: PM | News , Middle East | THE DAILY STAR

Iraqi security forces lost 2,300 Humvee armored vehicles when ISIS overran the northern city of Mosul, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Sunday. "In the collapse of Mosul, we lost a lot of weapons," Abadi said in an interview with Iraqiya state TV. "We lost 2,300 Humvees in Mosul alone." While the exact price of the vehicles varies depending on how they are armored and equipped, it is clearly a hugely expensive loss that has boosted ISIS's capabilities. Last year, the State Department approved a possible sale to Iraq of 1,000 Humvees with increased armor, machineguns, grenade launchers, other gear and support that was estimated to cost $579 million. Clashes began in Mosul, Iraq's second city, late on June 9, 2014, and Iraqi forces lost it the following day to ISIS, which spearheaded an offensive that overran much of the country's Sunni Arab heartland.

The militants gained ample arms, ammunition and other equipment when multiple Iraqi divisions fell apart in the country's north, abandoning gear and shedding uniforms in their haste to flee. ISIS has used captured Humvees, which were provided to Iraq by the United States, in subsequent fighting, rigging some with explosives for suicide bombings. Iraqi security forces backed by Shiite militias have regained significant ground from ISIS in Diyala and Salaheddin provinces north of Baghdad. But that momentum was slashed in mid-May when ISIS overran Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, west of Baghdad, where Iraqi forces had held out against militants for more than a year.

Surely they weren't lying. Meaning Iraq was well on its way to recovery when those words were spoken. Then...something drastic happened.

Oh, sure. I'm positive that Iraq must have been well on its way to recovery, or the politicians wouldn't have said so. If you can't count on what the president and VP say, who can you believe?

Just because there's always been war doesn't mean they need to be fought stupidly. The wars we've been engaged in since Vietnam have all been poorly planned except the Gulf War and Bosnia. Every single one since then have all been poorly thought through. Even the initial successes in Libya were squandered by poor planning.

Surely you've heard of the phrase "pick your battles". I think our government officials need required reading of The Art Of War and 1984. The mistakes our government is repeatedly making in the Middle East are inexcusable and ignorance is no excuse.

Dood made 17 trips there and traveled all over the countryside. He has hung the reputation of this administration on the place. What...you are calling the VP a liar?

    Thats a ridiculous manufactured narrative.

Of Bush lied so did prominent Democrats going all the way back to the late 90s when they claimed Saddam not only had WMD but had plans to go Nuclear
And how did that turn out then? Opps.

Also, we had no plan for success under Bush, just like Obama. Peas in a pod. Party players interested only in maintaining government dominance.
