Districts don't matter at all in a presidential election, except for in Maine and Nebraska.

i should have been more clear : they matter a lot in congressional elections, and almost not at all in presidential elections. if extremely partisan representatives from safe districts (state or federal) decided to make major changes to the electoral college to help the candidate of their party or used their majority to make it harder to vote, then gerrymandered districts could have an impact in that way.

That was the basis of the exchange. Doh! Why can Reps win Congressional seats but haven't had a credible presidential candidate for a long time.

And by "long time" you mean 6 years?

It's been 15 years since they selected an (eventually) electable pres. It has been 7 years since they selected the unelectable McCain.

Bush was president until January 2009, he was the last electable Republican to hold the office. Your metric is broken because it would determine that the Democrats haven't nominated an electable president for 6 years.

I got to meet Pataki last night, and I am VERY impressed. I also got to meet Scott Walker again. I really think at this point my choices are either of them, and I'm also giving Rand Paul a close look.
