Bernie Sanders is in the race because he wants the Democratic candidates to speak about the issues he thinks the American people want to hear about.

    That's what every candidate says.

So he doesn't really want to be President? Maybe he should let someone get in the race who wants to actually challenge Hillary Clinton and be President.

My guess is the Dems are pretty poor at motivating (basically making people pissed/afraid) people to vote. Personally it feels some of the Dem narratives/sound bites/etc that do get pushed out are often delivered by people that are a bit of a turn-off to average Joe, but that's just me.

Republicans, imo, are really good at getting their sound bites out there, and really good at even getting the biggest of lies to gain enough traction people start believing it.

because congressional districts are heavily gerrymandered, and that leads to noncompetitive stronghold districts on both sides. districts matter less in a presidential election.

Regional appeal combined with gerrymandering. Plus, unless they have aspirations of running for president, they can be more ideologically flexible

Though they're both pretty liberal on social issues, Hillary is clearly centrist on economic and foriegn policy issues.

You mean like the party that couldn't defeat George W. Bush?

Yes, the Congress is no longer Democrat, or hadn't you noticed?
