The cost of the death penalty is knowing that it can never always be applied justly and that the state will kill people in your name that did nothing to deserve it.
I'm not willing to pay that price.
But you are OK with people being imprisoned for life and dying in prison when they did nothing to deserve it?

Good lord he burned her to death?! wtf is wrong with people?
I call my own shots, largely based on an accumulation of data, and everyone knows it.

The name of the group escapes me, but there is a group of lawyers that work pro bono, which since the discovery of positive identification by DNA continue to go back to old cases..........last I'd heard they had been instrumental in the release of over 100 prisoners serving life for crimes they ended up not to have committed!!
Killing one person is murder, killing 100,000 is foreign policy

    Geezus. I can't imagine.

The death penalty should be used sparingly, but I believe in my heart that there are certain cases where it is absolutely appropriate - and you just mentioned one.

Given your other writing here I'm honestly surprised that you feel that way. You're not concerned that the death penalty can or is misused or that innocent people risk execution?

So you favour abolition of the courts and prisons and the scrapping of criminal law?

I'm not okay with that either. However the cost of that mistake is less than that of execution and it is always potentially reversible.

How is the cost of somebody dying in prison innocently less?

How do you get that from what I wrote? Can you not read and understand simple English? I oppose the death penalty. There is no reasonable way to conclude from that statement that I oppose the criminal justice system generally.

Because they are still alive and while alive the error of an improper incarceration is fixable.
