Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South China

Re: Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South Ch

Can you demonstrate where China has threatened to impede transportation in the vital shipping lanes that straddle the Spratlys, hmm?

They repeatedly warned off the U.S. reconnaissance flight operating in international air space.

I'm through with you on this Jack, you wouldn't know a provocation if it hit you upside the head, and you've contributed no substance to this discussion whatsoever!

Hi Polgara, the CFR is essentially a think tank for international relations, composed of individuals with very impressive credentials. That said, they are not a regulatory body, they have no enforcement authority, they don't engage in mediation beyond producing damn good essays on the way they think things should be tackled. Come on, you're giving Hillary a pass on that. Are you suggesting that she's geographically challenged? It was a very clear slight to China, and a direct provocation that the fellows at the CFR correctly pointed out could incorrectly embolden Manila. And you might know this as well, that Clinton's comment was made not long after the Chinese frustrated her attempts to secure a resolution for the use of force in Syria, so she's still smarting from that!

No, I wasn't giving her a pass - she knew what that body of water was called! And I still don't know why both she and BHO wanted to get rid of Assad! I wasn't aware it was China that blocked it - I thought it was Russia.

Flying in international air space cannot be a provocation.

Re: Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South Ch

China has the soundest title to the Spratlys of any of the other claimants.

The name South China Sea doesn't mean the waters 600 miles from the mainland belong to China.

Re: Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South Ch

So China is flexing their muscles...this is interesting! We'll see what our response might be....

Good evening, Polgara.:2wave:

According to Monte the Chinese are just minding their own business.

They both did. And the reason, because both China and Russia were perturbed by the US/NATO's abuse of UNSCR 1973 in Libya which authorised the use of force to protect Libyan civilians, NOT to conduct regime change. So they didn't trust the US with regards to Syria.

You can frame it that way, however, China explains that they are preparing to protect their interests. Do you realise that at about the same time that Bush invaded Iraq, both Russian and Chinese military expenditures went on fast track? Patronising Americans won't be accepting this until it's too late to effect any change, but China and Russia have been negotiating treaties since 2002. They both have complained that the present US dominated uni-polar world is a threat to global security, and they intend to do something about it. And we've got people here wanting to roll up their sleeves and poke a stick at China, like the example I gave you with Hillary, or the more recent situation where the Pentagon invited CNN to accompany them while they did a flyby on China last Friday, presumably flipping them the finger because they can. We can learn everything we need to know about what China's doing on their islands via satellite, such provocations are unnecessary, as the CFR pointed out.

I've been specifically addressing the Spratly's, and the dispute over them.

There was no flyby on China. There was a flight through international air space.

Good evening, Jack. :2wave:

And that makes me ponder all the possible outcomes when I look at the players involved in all the games that have been put into motion around the globe! :?:

Just like what is expressed in Taipei's response to the Philippines: The world has been on notice for years and years that China has a garrison on the Islands. It is childishly naive to entertain any notion that Cloma and associates' claim to "right of discovery" can serve as the legal basis for Philippine government's claiming and the actions as announced by President Marcos. The pursuit of an private and official claim to the Spratly Islands should be held to be a violation of international law and a provocation to China.[1, p71]

Popular mechanics says in a war between China and Taiwan, the US gets routed by China. Based on a scenario with input from the Rand Corp, interviews with Pentagon officials and Chinese defense papers.

The chance of war may be remote, but the Chinese strategy to deny American access to battlegrounds near China's coasts—and the hardware to pull it off—certainly exists. Since the Gulf War, the Chinese military has shifted from academic analysis of how to defeat U.S. aircraft carriers in the East China and South China seas to buying and building the weapons to make the plan a strategic reality. This is not a Cold War–era buildup, aimed at waging or deterring an apocalyptic last stand. This is a force engineered to win a limited local war—for example, keeping the United States away long enough to win Taiwan.

For U.S., Dividing China, Russia in Central Asia Easier Said Than Done

Judging by its rhetoric, the current Chinese leadership has seemingly bought into the Russian narrative about the dangers of instability resulting from Western-backed social revolutions that overthrow local regimes.

That's BS Monte. Then why before the last decade, going back 40 years were they not our making such a claim.

But they did. And their earliest title dates to 1887 when they won the uninhabited islands in a war with France. In 1907, they also placed flags and markers on the islands. After the conclusion of WW11, the Japanese were forced to return the archipelago to China in 1947, which they had seized from them in 1939. I've only pointed these facts out numerous times now.

Re: Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South Ch

The US is not bound to support Manila in the event of Filipino aggression.

Notice Monte he said Chinese aggression. Nothing was said about Filipino aggression. Quit moving the goalposts as it won't help your Anti American ass out, anyways. Have you figured out why Japan, Vietnam, and those other countries aren't talking about Filipino aggression. Can you figure out the part about them talking about Chinese aggression? Might be a clue that you just can't get around. Just like when China acts out on their own.

Why isn't any Military, Defense, or Intel experts talking about Filipino aggression? Could it be that....because there is none by the Filipinos. Or do you always blindly follow what adversaries of the US say.

Looks like you and those Arabs who have trained you, will need to go back and study History. Not their version of it. Nor Revisionist history made up by the Left. Since they aren't much up on, acquiring knowledge.

1947 is beyond the 40 years Monte.....oh and that still doesn't give them an out going back those 40 years. Do pay attention to the whole statement and not just parts or one word to play off. As that leftist tactic wont work with me.

I don't give a **** about your forty year claim, they've had legitimate claims for at least 150 years. My position doesn't follow a right or left ideology, it follows precedence. The same precedence that the US used when wresting control of the Philippines from Spain in the Spanish American war.

Re: Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South Ch

I agree. Four years after the end of WWII, the U.S. had about 200 atom bombs and no one else had even one yet. No nation in history had ever had that much military superiority over the rest of the world. As you say, that means the U.S. during that period could have dictated terms to every other nation in the world, if it really had been anything like the evil, imperialist aggressor commie America-haters are so fond of claiming it is.

What you may be failing to consider is what millions of people in this country--the really cool, righteous, evolved people--have learned through several decades of politically correct indoctrination--I mean education--in our wonderful public schools. And that is that all non-whites in the world are beautiful souls who are wise, peace-loving, and in harmony with the planet. America, in contrast, led by white Christian men, shows all the corruption that comes with greedy capitalist "civilization." This country is the source and font of all the world's evil, filled with resource-guzzling yahoos who rampage and exploit and pollute all over the world, invading, ravaging, and murdering innocent non-white men, women, and children just because they breathe.

I'm glad to see we finally have a president who's hip enough to know it's high time we arrogant American cowboys were humbled before the world. 9/11, which we obviously had coming, was a start. We provoked those poor Muslims with our aggression, until finally they could not take any more and taught us a lesson. And Mr. Obama, with his unique sensitivity to non-white foreigners, has done his best to cut us down a couple more pegs still. But there's much more to be done--Americans have to rid themselves of this hokey, Ozzie-and-Harriet-era pride in this country, once and for all.

Acting to establish a claim by force undercuts the possible validity of the claim. China has drawn a contorted and tortured map in an attempt to establish that claim as well. Note that the map China offers also includes Taiwan. I wonder if Taiwan should approach the UN and claim China as theirs.

I see what you haven't figure out yet, is that History. Its not my claim.....try turning on the news, Radio or TV. They have been talking about it all morning.

That's Right.....your position doesn't. It follows nothing but Anti American BS. While running around and whining and crying that everything on the earth is the fault of the US.

Which is why YOU couldn't come up with answer for China and its lameass excuses for creating animosity with its neighbors. Basically because the Chinese aren't standing on any Righteous ground. As well as not getting the answers from your Arab mentors.

There is no defense nor excuse for their actions. NONE Monte. Absolutely none!!!!!

You haven't a clue about the history of the Spratlys, nor any understanding of what overlapping claims mean, as such your a waste of time, take the last word and then go play games with someone else, hear?
