You will find no post of mine saying the islands are important. Freedom of navigation is important to the US. The islands are important to the states in the region. We won't fight over the islands but we will defend freedom of navigation.

Not at all. I'm really having my doubts about your objectivity. The Sino-French war that culminated in the Sino-French-Vietnam land boundary convention of 1887 was settled as China's rightful ownership of the Spratly islands many decades before the ownership of Guam was settled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As to the Philippines, same with India aligning with the US. Why is that alignment taking place? China and past wars with India, territorial grabs.
China has base rights for a seaport in Pakistan. How it that any different from the US?
Same as their plan to have naval base rights in Sri Lanka. Right by India.
With the SC Seas and Sri Lanka they could have 2 choke points.

Nope- China is doing with bases and agreements exactly what the US has done and is doing.
    China is not being encircled.
China after centuries of being ripped apart by the Western powers is emerging.
Now, how they emerge as a Super Power is open for debate.
Prior to the last change in leadership, China was very cautious when dealing with their neighboring countries. Not pulling the strong arm tactics.
Reason they agreed to Multilateral discussions on the SC Sea.
That was thrown by the wayside. Makes many people nervous about Chinese intentions.

That has changed under the present leadership, hence a build up in arms and agreements with the small fry in the region.
China also has past grievances to settle.

Not only on public perception and reputation, but cops simply won't want to police these neighborhoods anymore.

right. ****, even hawks like you can't be bothered to inconvenience yourself by avoiding Chinese made goods to help the war effort. either China will shut the **** up about it, or we'll quietly start diverting planes five feet to the left or right. cheap TVs are too important.

A few decades?? to be precise, 22 years.
And the French did not control the Philippines, Spain did.
Again the French cannot sign away another countries rights.
