We are to believe though, that they are under threat of attack from the Philippines and Vietnam. It's hard to stop laughing about that.
I agree. Four years after the end of WWII, the U.S. had about 200 atom bombs and no one else had even one yet. No nation in history had ever had that much military superiority over the rest of the world. As you say, that means the U.S. during that period could have dictated terms to every other nation in the world, if it really had been anything like the evil, imperialist aggressor commie America-haters are so fond of claiming it is.

What you may be failing to consider is what millions of people in this country--the really cool, righteous, evolved people--have learned through several decades of politically correct indoctrination--I mean education--in our wonderful public schools. And that is that all non-whites in the world are beautiful souls who are wise, peace-loving, and in harmony with the planet. America, in contrast, led by white Christian men, shows all the corruption that comes with greedy capitalist "civilization." This country is the source and font of all the world's evil, filled with resource-guzzling yahoos who rampage and exploit and pollute all over the world, invading, ravaging, and murdering innocent non-white men, women, and children just because they breathe.

I'm glad to see we finally have a president who's hip enough to know it's high time we arrogant American cowboys were humbled before the world. 9/11, which we obviously had coming, was a start. We provoked those poor Muslims with our aggression, until finally they could not take any more and taught us a lesson. And Mr. Obama, with his unique sensitivity to non-white foreigners, has done his best to cut us down a couple more pegs still. But there's much more to be done--Americans have to rid themselves of this hokey, Ozzie-and-Harriet-era pride in this country, once and for all.

Relentless silliness. China is the aggressor, and must be dealt with firmly.

For my final attempt with you JANFU. Though there's more than this, China holds a treaty from 1887 known as the boundary convention, signed between China and France at the conclusion of the Sino-French war, in which China already fought for the un inhabited Spratly islands and won! In which treaty the Chinese are documented as the rightful owners! Furthermore, in 1939, the Japanese wrested possession of the islands from the Chinese, but after the Japanese surrender, during restoration, the Spratlys were returned to the Chinese in 1947.

Imperial China, imperialist France, and Imperial Japan. An even more elevated level of silliness.

Beijing warns US: 'We will fight back' as battle of words escalates over South China Sea - Asia - World - The Independent

China has upped its military posturing, issuing a strategy paper saying Beijing would “surely counterattack if attacked” by an enemy amid concerns from the US and neighbouring countries over its developments in the South China Sea. The release of the document came shortly after Beijing lodged a complaint against the US for flying a surveillance jet over disputed territory in the South China Sea, where China is building artificial islands. Chinese state media reported that the white paper, issued by the state council, the country’s cabinet, underscored that Beijing was committed to world peace and believed that a world war was unlikely. But it added that “small-scale wars, conflicts and crises are recurrent in some regions”. The state-owned news agency Xinhua highlighted one particular phrase, which appeared in the “Strategic Guideline of Active Defence” section: “We will not attack unless attacked, but we will surely counterattack if attacked.”

Much to the concern of its neighbours and the US, China, the dominant powerhouse in the region, has been building artificial islands and buildings in the disputed South China Sea, where the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan all have overlapping claims. In one area, the Spratly islands, the US says China has created 2,000 acres of land, with satellite images showing what appears to be an airstrip. The paper said that China’s armed forces would work to “resolutely safeguard China’s sovereignty [and] security and development interests” and work towards “realising the Chinese dream of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”. Announcing its release, the People’s Liberation Army spokesman Yang Yujun appeared to be referring to the US when he said that “outside powers” were attempting to “tarnish the Chinese military’s reputation and create an atmosphere of exaggerated tension.” He added: “We cannot eliminate the possibility that this is to create excuses for the actions that certain countries may be planning to take.”
China's just acting out, they're not going to shoot at anybody.

Hi Polgara, the CFR is essentially a think tank for international relations, composed of individuals with very impressive credentials. That said, they are not a regulatory body, they have no enforcement authority, they don't engage in mediation beyond producing damn good essays on the way they think things should be tackled. Come on, you're giving Hillary a pass on that. Are you suggesting that she's geographically challenged? It was a very clear slight to China, and a direct provocation that the fellows at the CFR correctly pointed out could incorrectly embolden Manila. And you might know this as well, that Clinton's comment was made not long after the Chinese frustrated her attempts to secure a resolution for the use of force in Syria, so she's still smarting from that!

You are the silly one, who's added nothing of substance to this discussion.

You are losing the augment when it devolves to this.
I stopped counting at the 50 Plus mark of friends killed in Bosnia and AStan. And that does not include all the suicides after. And more to come.
    I spent 3 1/2 years in a **** hole called Bosnia.
I suggest reconsidering your insulting remark.
If you want America to stand up to China, then your advocating Americans spill their blood. I'm not loosing any argument. The Chinese, nor any of the other claimants give a **** what you and I have to say about this!
