Charles Johnson, one of the Internet’s most infamous trolls, has finally been banned from Twitter - The Washington Post

Chuck Johnson, the far-right mega-troll who doxed two New York Times reporters and argued that homosexuality caused the Amtrak derailment, may at last be off Twitter — this time, for good.

On Sunday, Johnson was permanently suspended from the site after asking for funds to “take out” the civil rights activist DeRay McKesson, who’s been active in Baltimore and Ferguson, Mo. Twitter has also suspended a series of Johnson’s new accounts, including @citizentrolling and @freechucknow, prompting Johnson and his lawyers to threaten legal action and accuse the site of “censorship.”
And your opinion is??????

I followed him for awhile. He was incredibly annoying.

P.S. DeRay is one of the "black lives matter ---- but only when whitey is involved".

Another annoying little twit was Todd Kincannon. He was recently arrested for domestic violence.

It appears this guy's a Rightie who doesn't agree with free-association, free-market principles, and limiting frivolous litigation.

And I bet he preached it ... until now!

Re: Charles Johnson, one of the Internet’s most infamous trolls, has finally been ban

Never heard of him. I don't Twit.

No, he was an annoying twit that nobody liked. I think what got him banned was not meant seriously, so it's losers all 'round.

He is a really creepy little cyber terrorist. The worst troll our there, not just wrong on so many things, but he outs people and then gets the person wrong. Im surprised someone hasn't beat the living hell out of him. Took a long time, but he is finally banned from Twitter, 7 different names.

Never heard of the guy before reading the article.
But yeah, scum, bottom feeding type.

Yeah, well, threats issued as a joke aren't going to sit well with a business either. No, he's the only loser here. Twitter has no particular reason to humor a dip**** of this magnitude.

Now see, you can't even finish that statement without qualifying it to the target.

Personally I think the dip**** should have been suspended after complaining that the ISIS beheading victims didn't fight back hard enough.

Everyone knows that Johnson was not literally planning to kill anyone anymore than this professor was when she posted on Facebook.

Also, what should be done with Jimmy Hoffa Jr.?

Re: Charles Johnson, one of the Internet’s most infamous trolls, has finally been ban

He'll probably find some other outlet other than Twitter and just continue.

I do find it noteworthy that we now live in an age where banning of trolls can get covered by major media institutions.

Re: Charles Johnson, one of the Internet’s most infamous trolls, has finally been ban

For fun I looked up the DebatePolitics thread about Hoffa's comments. Seems that "take out" means different things for different people. Obviously attributing violence to the words of a teamster is just plain unfair for an organization with such a non-violent history, while a twitter dweeb must really mean it! :lamo

Uhh, what? Qualifying it? Why wouldn't I? This is a specific dude, am I supposed to comment on someone else's Twitter account? Jay-Z, maybe?

Re: Charles Johnson, one of the Internet’s most infamous trolls, has finally been ban

No idea who the guy is, but the moment anyone goes to 'take out' someone else, the gigs up and time for them to go.

Your statement started off as a general condemnation of what was said and ended up justifying in because of who Johnson was. Which is it? Should everyone that issues the term "take out" be banned from Twitter, or just the people Twitter doesn't like?

No, they shouldn't permanently ban everyone that says "take out" someone. They should use their common sense and professional judgment, and weigh the tweet itself, and in context with the person's history, and then make a decision considering all the facts whether it's in the best interest of the other millions of Twitter users and the company to ban, or suspend, or warn, or ignore, the tweet and the user. In this case, considering his long history as a professional offensive troll, it should have been a very easy decision - bring out the ban hammer.

Besides, even if you assume, fairly enough, Johnson was NOT issuing an actual threat to kill someone, what he clearly WAS doing was trying use Twitter to raise money to fund a harassment campaign against another Twitter user. I'm perfectly fine with banning this idiot for that.

His tweet:

"Go to [idiot's web site] if you want to give money to taking out @Deray [McKesson]"

They're not in business to provide a platform for trolls to raise money to harass other Twitter users, on Twitter. IMO, they'd be idiots to allow that nonsense on their platform. It turns off other users to their service. Same reason the mods here wouldn't put up with that BS, and rightly so.

That's a pretty ridiculous interpretation. Try to read posts as a whole rather than a series of isolated sentences with no connection to each other.

I didn't justify it "because of who he is." He did a thing. A dip**** thing and twitter has no reason to coddle a dip****. Do you see? It's the other way around. Twitter should boot him because he did a dip**** thing. He's a dip**** because he does dip**** things.

I hope your confusion is now settled and we can end the derail.

No, I think your confusion just grows. You are still doing it.

Should twitter suspend anyone who writes a post using that terminology?

Perhaps life would be better without Twitter.
