Warren Buffett: $15 minimum wage will hurt the working class

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

That isnt his problem, that IS a problem. When I started out in law enforcement I made $15 an hour as a part time officer. That is with a bachelor's degree and paying my own way through LE academy.

Now Im supposed to believe that someone flipping burgers making that same wage is A-OK? I was making felony arrests making that money...but thats called paying your damn dues. All those people working warehouse jobs that paid their dues to make $15+ as supervisors paid their dues. Come on bro....cant you admit that labor has a value? If you are working a job that requires no skill then you shouldnt be rewarded for breezing through life. That type of loser mindset makes my blood boil.

Of course labor has value. But why does someone else getting a raise insult you?

Surely, if your labor really is so much more valuable, your pay will also increase because your employer will have to out-compete fast food restaurants.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

Yea but your personal income tax would go through the roof then you would be at square one. Progs like yourself like shoveling money back and forth to pretend like they are doing something useful, when in reality they are just creating parasitic loss. Same thing goes with the car engine....the engine makes X horsepower...then when you introduce the transmission, drive shaft, axle, gears, tires, friction, etc you make a lot less horsepower. Parasitic loss....that is what happens when the government gets involved in ANYTHING. You are paying people to manage your money, so they are going to take some of that money to do the managing, turning your dollar into cents.

But you would probably like that because, as a socialist, and as Ive already said, you believe that all money is the governments money.

You do realize that I was being sarcastic don't you?

But I am glad that you just made my point. It's rediculous to increase welfare.

And you are accusing me of being a progressive/socialist, yet it's mostly conservatives and libertarians who are arguing that wages should be low and that we should have lots of welfare to make low wage workers comfortable in their poverty, at the expense of those of us who make decent wages.

Aside from the benefits not calculated in to your "LE" enforcement employment (private school really paid off!), you are ignoring a basic, fundamental concept called....inflation (again with the thinking thingy!).

I had no benefits when I making $15 an hour...that came when I became full time and my salary doubled along with those sweet benefits (keep paying your taxes, home slice). Inflation is a good thing for socialists such as yourself....if you are $18 Trillion in Obama-debt, why wouldnt you want the dollar worth less? I wonder how much $18 Trillion would be worth back when we were still on the gold standard that socialists took us off of?

Am I the only person who sees the irony in conservatives arguing that we should increase welfare rather than to increase income from actually being productive?

Are conservatives the new progressive-liberals?

So increase it for the people actually being productive...not min wage burger flippers. Give the management a pay raise, keep the zit poppers at the bottom.

Id like to see us eliminate welfare AND the minimum wage. That would actually kick start the economy about as much as eliminating the corporate tax. Then people would actually have to try instead of breezing through life.

So, if McDonald's paid $15/hour, would you go work there? Breezing through life, right? Why wouldn't you?

It seems to me that you have a jealousy issue.

Wages should be low for certain jobs and full grown adults should not be working those jobs. Eliminating welfare would be good motivation for them.

Name ONE conservative who said we should have "lots a welfare"?? Im certainly not saying that. What ****ing RIDICULOUS assertion by you.

The left loves to post Warren Buffett and parrot what he says as the way things should be done.
https://fortune.com/2015/05/22/warren-buffett-minimum-wage/

well he just came out and made the same statement that other people have already acknowledged.
a $15 minimum wage will hurt middle income families.

His idea is to expand the EIC.
Well, are you in favor of expanding the Earned Income Credit? In past posts, people such as Fenton, who 'liked' your post, called people who don't pay income taxes moochers. Now, are you'all in favor of giving more to the 'moochers?'

I'd rather raise the minimum wage, and have employers foot the bill for higher wages, instead of laying at the feet of taxpayers and subsidize employer low-pay.

So what you're saying is that McDonald's should only be open after 5pm? Yeah that seems like a good business model.

Expanding the EITC is "lots of welfare."

Oh right...Im jealous...but the people who want to make my salary with zero skills, zero education, and zero effort arent...ohhhhhhhh ok That makes sense. And Mitt Romney is greedy as well because he doesnt pay his fair share of taxes (he actually was paying $2 million a year when Harry Scumbag Reid was accusing him of paying nothing...something that he not only didnt apologize for but is proud of saying to this very day) but the people who pay ZERO income taxes and want Romney to pay MORE arent greedy?

Bizarro world.

I was HAPPY AS **** to get that part time job paying $15 an hour....because I know if I worked my ass off I would benefit from it, and I have....its too bad these liberal sycophants cant take that same mindset and take their min. wage job and through hard work and effort turn it into a $15 an hour supervisor/management job...the people who actually DESERVE a raise.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

How about raising the minimum wage and also investing in education?

That's perfect. Turn out graduates who can't get a job because employment is too expensive. But at least the edu-crats have a job.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

I've worked a lot of different jobs in a lot of different industries. Honestly, I haven't found any of them particularly easy or difficult. Having to deal with the public as a cashier at McDonalds has a different type of "difficulty" than flipping burgers, which has a different type of difficulty than working in a manufacturing plant, which has a different type of difficulty than being a manager or a pencil pusher.

Just this week I was talking to a young attorney who was telling me how easy his job is, he does initial consultations for a large law firm, gets paid nearly $100k just to talk to people - and he admitted that most of the time they could get the same advice for free just by using google.

I'd imagine that being a brain surgeon is pretty easy, for trained brain surgeons. Just the same way that being a rock start is easy for rock stars, and being a professional golfer is easy for professional golfers. Once you know how to do something and are skilled in it, then everything is easy.

Someone who had only been in my industry a few months asked me if it ever got easier. I told them no, it never get's easier, you just get better at it.

I'm really not sure that any particular job is more productive than another - they are all needed, and all are easy once you become skilled at that particular profession.

I had no benefits when I making $15 an hour...that came when I became full time and my salary doubled along with those sweet benefits (keep paying your taxes, home slice).
I'm sorry, I did not quite see when that was, exactly. You see, if you want to compare what you earned then with a $15 per sometime in the future (since the increase is for some cities, some employees, years into the future) we would need to know the date of when/then.
Inflation is a good thing for socialists such as yourself....if you are $18 Trillion in Obama-debt, why wouldnt you want the dollar worth less? I wonder how much $18 Trillion would be worth back when we were still on the gold standard that socialists took us off of?
Aside from not understanding inflation, or gold, I'm just amazed that a former city employee is whining about socialism....when for years (apparently) he was paid by one of the oldest forms of socialized employment.

Is that a memorization issue, or a thinking one?

That's better than not having ample edu-crat jobs!!! Look at what the alternative would be - no jobs because employment is too expensive plus no edu-crat jobs.

Great. So quit demanding other people live in poverty just so you can feel better about yourself.

Employers wont food the bill for anything....YOU will pay their higher wages, just like YOU will pay their taxes for them.

Want higher wages...eliminate the corporate tax. Stop take, take, taking from businesses all the time and PRETENDING that is good for anything.

Well, the EITC is is pretty big, and we have a number of cons approving and wanting it expanded, Cpwill for example.

Burger flippers aren't productive? What about that cashier?

You don't eat prepared foods?

What about grass cutters, and hair cutters? Are those jobs not productive either? What about shelf stockers or buggy boys? Truck drivers? Front line managers?

At what point do we draw the line and say that someones work isn't productive?

I would think that it is any work that we aren't willing to pay for. We are willing to pay for burger flippers, cahsiers, grass cutters, hair cutters, shelf stockers, truck drivers, etc, thus all those jobs are productive and have value.

Are you so self centered that you believe only your particular job has any value?

The idea that lower corporate taxes would increase wages is absolutely comical.

I dont DEMAND anyone does anything. That is what YOU are doing. YOU are DEMANDING that employers MUST pay more money out.

Its always funny when PROGS start up the hypocrisy train. CHOO CHOO

The only thing I believe in is that the people who put in the most effort and do the best job get rewarded by getting paid the most. PROGS dont believe in that because they pretend the world is fair. They think burger flippers should have a 2 story house with a picket fence, and the CEO should have the same....even though one has a GED and one has an MBA.

More effort = more results
Less effort = less results

Its not that hard to understand. I worked harder at improving my life than people who think McDonalds line cooking is a career. Salting fries is equal to running an international company in the mind of the socialist progressive.

I'm all for that, except that I don't think there is really a connection between wages and corporate taxation.

Meh. The education bubble is set to burst, anyway. It will take a lifetime for the current generation of graduates to pay off their student loans, if they ever do, and the edu-crats will be competing with them for jobs at McDonald's.

Why? Less money to pay out to the government, more money to invest into the company. Why WOULDNT wages rise?

Im waiting for your socialist self to explain to me how RAISING taxes and having the highest corporate tax in the world in a benefit to the average worker. Ill watch some paint dry while you desperately search for an answer.

You are attacking the wrong people.

You should be attacking the people on this thread who claim to be conservatives or libertarians, who are also supporting an increase in means tested welfare.

I believe that for large non-S corps, taxes are paid on profits, so if a corp wanted lower taxes, they could, and I know this sounds cra-cra, raise their wages.

I don't think a CEO is the same as salting fries, no. I also don't think there's any danger of that happening.
