Cleveland man wrongly imprisoned for 40 years sues officers who 'framed' him | US news | The Guardian

A man who spent nearly 40 years in prison for a murder he did not commit filed a federal lawsuit on Tuesday against the city of Cleveland and the police officers who he says helped frame him in 1975. Ricky Jackson was convicted at age 18 along with two others because of the testimony of a 12-year-old boy. Jackson, 58, was exonerated in November after that witness, a man now in his early 50s, recanted his testimony. The witness, Eddie Vernon, said in 2013 that police detectives threatened to put his parents in jail and coerced him into implicating Jackson and brothers Wiley and Ronnie Bridgeman in the slaying of salesman Harold Franks outside a corner store.
Jackson and the Bridgemans received death sentences that were later commuted to life in prison. Jackson’s attorneys say their client is believed to have served the longest prison term in the US for someone wrongfully convicted.

How tragic. I do support the death penalty, on a VERY limited basis, for similar reasons.
 
This guy should be given 1 billion dollars from the state government, and have those officers as his slaves for the rest of their life.

40 years of injustice....

that should happen to no-one.... I would let 1000 rapist and murderers free before I do that to an innocent person... hell I'd release all of them

Those cops should be in jail.

But yes, the Death Penalty should be done away with in general.
 
I could not imagine that happening to me.... it would ruin me... I would be broken, completely... be one of the worst things that could happen to an innocent person.

at least kill me unjustly before having me sit in a cell for the rest of my life in complete and utter bitterness
 
So when he gets out of jail could he commit just about any crime he wanted, that carries a sentence of less than 40 years, and just get "time served"?

Because if I were him I would sure be tempted.

I think that American citizens need to fight for public hanging by trail for people that abuse their authority in this manner. 1 rogue cop can destroy sooooooooo many lives. They have no fear of sheep-like citizens (maybe a tiny bit scared of cell phone cameras). These particular cops ARE NOT guard-dogs. They are wolves that learned how to pretend to act like guard dogs until no-one is looking. The cop who framed this man needs to be hung in town square so all the other rogue cops can see the fear in his eyes on youtube. We cant continue to allow these rogue cops to play god with society.

Im not sure i could turn the other cheek on this one. If some cop did this to me and wrongly imprisoned me guess what the first thing I do is going to be when i get out of prison? Find the cop who framed me.

The cop should be given a fast track to death penalty. We cant allow these people to keep using their position of authority to pervert our trust. It needs to stop sooner rather than later. A few more fake-alpha male cops doing dominating **** to people and 1 wrong response by authorities above and it could straight up spark an american revolt. These rogue cops NEED to be SEVERELY punished for the health of the country. And Americans need to be comfortable by having laws that instantly make a cop guilty of any accused crime if they turn their personal cam off or our found to try to skew the camera's witnessing, by having all cops agree to this for their voluntary employment.
