The problem is that the myths that conservatives convince themselves are real, like increasing the minimum wage will cause people to lose their jobs and it will drive out small businesses, are not real.

I think that if the MW was linked to the cost of living in some way and it got to this level gradually it would be a non issue right now.

That makes no sense: if you can do the job, then you have - skills.

why not make the environment I am working in more hospitable for me to work in? why make it a hostile business environment in the first place?

I am sure that the people losing their jobs won't be happy at 15 bucks an hour.

doesn't mean I am going or anyone else will hire you.
at this point it is very well cheaper for me to get a big production kitchen to sign an NDA and make my cupcakes for me.
all I have to do is wait for the shipment and sell them.

then I only need 1 or 2 people working a day instead of 10 or so.

at 15 dollars an hour doing the job is not enough. you want to work in a cupcake factory then you will need a culinary degree of some kind.
you will have to be able to justify making 15 an hour.

same with flipping burgers. you will need some kind of cooking certificate or qualification.

it makes perfect sense. at 15 dollars an hour I expect profession people not someone without a high school diploma.

and everyone else such as myself would be making double since our jobs require much more work and skills than minimum wage jobs.
that means the prices of everything goes up which puts the people on the floor right where they are now.

LA can raise it to 15 all they want to and in a few years that won't be enough.

Good call. And we can go further than that. We have an administration that has created $9trillion in debt in the last 6 years. There is no end to the spending because they simply mint new money. As we discussed in another thread this makes all federal taxes simply punitive, since an administration that is not at all concerned with debt can simply fire up the presses to pay it's bills. So why not then, if the goal is a working wage, just pay everybody $600 a week ($15 x 40 hours) from newly minted money? I'll tell you why. Because the goal is to drive a wedge between employers and employees, not create a living wage. Had they not altered the job pool by reducing the work week to 30 hours to begin with this wouldn't even be necessary.

this is not true. if they could simply fire up the press and pay what they owe then why not just print 16 trillion dollars an pay off the debt?
this would cause economic destruction. the dollar would be near worthless and no one would trade or loan you money. that is exactly why
we don't do what you just said we do.

however I will agree if the SEIU was so concerned they would open up their own places of business all union shops pay their people 15-20 bucks an hour
and see how far they get. they will be closed in no time and losing money faster than they made it.

why? because the guy that makes the burgers can't put the condiments on there that is the condiment guys job. and he can't put the bun on because that is the bun
guy and he can't get the customers drink because that is the drink guy.

if any of them take a break then the whole operations falls apart because no one else can do another job.

what do you mean the burger guy has to get the fries that is the fry's guys job and you get a complaint lodged against you.

you didn't catch him. he could hack the city before the city put unrealistic wages in place. which is the whole point.
