Re: Harvard accused of bias against Asian-Americans

Something tells me the average American could care less if Harvard University dissipated tomorrow.

They're all elitist scum filth anyways who hate the average American many times over. The average person at Harvard wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire and don't forget it.

A rich Black/Hispanic person who faced no obstacles at all in his life would get the aid of the AA policies while a White/Asian person of the same status would not. If these policies did not exist, the Black/Hispanic person and the White/Asian person would be on an equal ground. Thus it can be concluded that this is a case of discrimination purely on a racial basis, and that is wrong, period. I much prefer the folk who openly support racial discrimination over those who do so dishonestly and then call it "equality".

yes because that scenario is SO common

i will grant you that it should be more fine tuned so that it won't benefit say floyd mayweather or obama's kids, but it's not going to disadvantage the poor white kid from shantyville because, again, he will need 4.0 and 1600 SAT to even have a chance, and that's not going to happen, because he's poor!

Socioeconomic diversity should be the main consideration, not racial. That will still largely benefit black applicants, but that's because poverty is much higher for that group. Either way, the choice is largely between more diversity and more spoiled ass trust fund kids from posh boarding schools

You do realize you're whining over a 1/10,000 chance at getting into harvard for that poor white/asian kid, if the policy was dropped, right?

He sure as **** won't have perfect grades/SAT, 8+ APs, national/international awards and co-authored research that's needed to get in

Glad to see you are admitting that affirmative action is indeed racist.

I don't agree that kids from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds are inherently incapable of excelling in education. And scholarships of all sorts can help with the financial side. I also disagree with your contention that rich kids are automatically going to get good grades on academic tests.

Harvard is far from being the only institute on the planet that has affirmative action policies.

So much anger and hate in this thread. It clouds people's logical thinking.

Poor white kids usually come from rural areas, where they don't even offer AP classes, and the only extracurricular is football. There weren't even enough kids for band some years. Harvard is just never going to even consider someone from that kind of background

Pretty much only elite private schools are both difficult to get into and allowed to use race as a factor any more. That leaves about a dozen schools at most

As a white kid from a poor background who recently dealt with the admissions insanity, i can tell you, there was one guy who finished the year before me and got into Chicago and another to notre dame, and that was it...for the entire county

    So 1/10,000 seems about right

You have a much to deterministic and simplistic view on both the variety of socio-economic conditions and on the relationship with intellectual capacities.
