I could never support the death penalty because innocent people will get killed. That said I'm not losing any sleep over this.

Probably. But when people start advocating for stuff I see in movies set in future dystopias, I get worried.

It would cement his death as a martyr to radicals. It wouldn't be a good idea.

I think it would be best for him to live and regret being radicalized. That would send a stronger message to youngsters being targeted by ISIS for recruitment.

Probably... but don't you think we've moved a little further than state publicized blood sport?

Personally, I'm quite conflicted about the death penalty. In the majority, murders are often crimes of passion where a person in a sense loses their mind emotionally and becomes someone they normally never are and they can commit awful acts in that state of mind. I'm for having those people serve a sentence in prison and potentially rehabilitated at a much later date.

However, people who commit crimes like this - premeditated and distant, choosing innocent people to suffer their cruelty - I feel no similar sense of empathy for them. Likewise, those who murder in the act of robbery or other self-serving act. Those I have little problem with receiving the death penalty.

And as I have mentioned people sentenced to the DP, have been cleared 30 years later. The evidence was irrefutable at that time as well.
The problem being what is considered irrefutable and defining such legally.
Point of appeals - as noted above.
The DP serves no purpose other than vengeance.

Not only on public perception and reputation, but cops simply won't want to police these neighborhoods anymore.
The shooter was later found to be white.

Not all murders are capital murders. Only capital murder can receive capital punishment. It's usually only the murders that can really piss you off that are cap murders.
