The 'King of the Blues' guitarist and singer, BB King, has died aged 89, his lawyer says.

King, known for his hits Lucille, Sweet Black Angel and Rock Me Baby, died in his sleep in Las Vegas.
Born in Mississippi, King began performing in the 1940s. He went on to influence a generation of musicians, working with Eric Clapton and U2. Link.

Saw BB King in 1988 as a student in Newcastle, brilliant performance. Sad day today but thank you for the music, thank you for the musicians you inspired.

R.I.P.

His legacy will lives on.

I probably dont appreciate the true depth of his influence, but certainly some.

RIP

I love this cut. Tracy Chapman is fantastic in her own right, but if you watch, talented as she is, she is in awe of Mr. B.B. King.

We are losing all the greats of the Blues. B.B.'s Legacy - hopefully - will live on.

I love the blues. Can't remember when I didn't. A friend of mine, bluesman Big Pete Pearson, and I were talking once about the blues in the US and the blues in Europe. Big Pete plays a lot in Europe. A lot.

I once ran into him in Paris, which was weird. He'd been playing in Europe for a month! I asked him why, except for the South and places like Chicago, the blues is barely mainstream in America, yet in Europe he plays to packed houses. He said, "Americans just don't get it anymore like they do in Europe."

One more, I have to, from BB King. How do you pick a favorite from a legend?

OMG - so sad. :(

Shocker.

Having said that - this great man's legacy will live forever.

Saw him in concert once about 10 years ago - he was better than ever.

RIP.

I can't say it better than others before me. Wishing his family peace and comfort and wonderful memories of a very special man.

Very sad to see him go. RIP, B.B. One of the great ones.

A true master of his craft, Rest in Peace. Sad day.

I saw him a few years ago. He was old and tired but still played like magic. RIP, Mr. King.

I'm sitting back listening to a 4 hour playlist of his songs. His music got me into the blues when I was around 13 or 14. RIP.

BB King Bluesville has been #1 on my XM satellite radio presets for years.

This is sad news. and a great loss for the music industry.

I so regret I didn't put more effort in seeing him play live when I had the chance.

Going to miss you Blues Boy.

I think I will join you, sounds like a blues and guitar jazz kind of day now.

The stories as well...

A giant of American music. Not sure what it has to do with politics, however.

The great one is gone. Will music ever be the same?

Always been a fan. Mentioned this on another thread, but I had a chance to see him a few years ago, and something came up and I couldn't go. Told my husband we'd regret not going, because we may not get the chance to go again. :( :(

A little trivia -- His real name was Riley, but was called "BB" because he was a DJ in Memphis, and picked up the name "Beale Street Blues Boy."

Also, there wasn't just one Lucille - every Gibson he owned, he called Lucille. Said he named them Lucille because the shape reminded him of a woman's body. :)

He was awesome. Took my grandmother to see him at a casino in Shreveport ten years ago. She had put together a 3'x4' poster, sharply decorated with garland fringe confetti, and photos, past ticket stubs, commemorative articles etc., and had it perched on an easel in her Hotel room. A couple of room service staff had seen it and later on, upon delivering room service to his (King's) suite, they told him about it. They returned to my grandmothers room and told her that King wanted to see it! Of course she said, by all means. When they returned with it, it had his autograph across it, a ring, a watch and a guitar pick attached to it as well. He hated time, often had a watch or large clock near him on stage and would say, "they told me I need to stop at this time, but I feel like still playing, what do you all think"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
