WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats handed President Obama a stinging rebuke on Tuesday, blocking consideration of legislation granting their own president “fast track” power to complete a major trade accord with 11 nations in the Pacific Rim.
The Senate vote on a procedural motion to begin debating the bill to give the president “trade promotion authority,” was 52 to 45 in favor, eight short of the 60 needed for passage. Republicans and pro-trade Democrats said they will try to negotiate a trade package that can clear that threshold.

But the vote Tuesday presented Mr. Obama what might be a no-win situation. He may have to accept trade enforcement provisions he does not want to get the trade legislation through the Senate, but those same provisions might doom the Pacific trade negotiations that legislation is supposed to boost.

At least someone on the hill has their heads out of their asses on this.

I think they are doing it more to oppose republicans than Obama. just happens that Obama supported this bill.

What partisan rubbish. Can't even give credit where credits actually due.

May democrats do actually oppose trade deals that are harmful to American workers. Its shame that so many republicans some democrats have their lips firmly wrapped around the cocks of businesses owners who wish to outsource.

The ACA wasnt debated to the public on the floor of congress?

THE ACA in committee was kept from the public, and when it hit the floor, it was not given much debate time...which it why it is referred to as being "rammed down the throats of americans"

so what i am saying is there in nothing new in that aspect of government wheeling and dealing.

What's particularly wrong with the TPP? I'm trying to find good sources as to what it actually does but unfortunately most are partisan spin pieces.

it isn't partisan at all. the majority of democrats oppose this bill while a majority of republicans support it.
depending on the bill and the agreement I would vote against it as well.

it was a vote against the bill not Obama, however Obama will take the flack since he supports this bill.

THE ACA in committee was kept from the public,
Really? Was it now? And how did they do such a thing? Please tell me.

and when it hit the floor, it was not given much debate time..
You really dont understand the basics of the Senate do you?

I am a conservative vs republican however I don't support all trade agreements.
unless there is value in it for America I see no reason to sign any trade agreement.

Just from what I read I would not support this bill either.
however I know why the president does, and many might question why the president does however if you read some of the more disturbing parts of this bill
it fits right in line with his ideology.

i'll cautiously applaud this, but i have to point out that i believe that the trade agreement is going to go through anyway. this is because those with money have already purchased it. Democrats still have to put on a good pro labor show for those of us in the cheap seats, though, and i suspect that this is what's happening now.

did the facts of the law of the ACA made public while in committee...no..it was behind closed doors.

i underSTAND the senate very well..but hereS my point!

every time you make post you do so as to make the republicans look bad, in this case you make it look look democrats stood up for truth and kept the american people from getting Scre*ed.

now lets say you correct in this point on this thread.

however democrats have kept things from the public in the past and will do it again, just like republicans do.....neither party is a party of ..trust.

so peddling 1 party over the other is a waste.
