Obama’s quiet nuclear deal with China raises proliferation concerns

    Obama

It seemed like a typical day for President Obama. He taped a TV interview on trade, hosted the champion NASCAR team on the South Lawn and met with the defense secretary in the Oval Office.

Not so typical was something that didn’t appear that day on the president’s public schedule: notification to Congress that he intends to renew a nuclear cooperation agreement with China. The deal would allow Beijing to buy more U.S.-designed reactors and pursue a facility or the technology to reprocess plutonium from spent fuel. China would also be able to buy reactor coolant technology that experts say could be adapted to make its submarines quieter and harder to detect.

No deals on limiting Nukes, as the US has with Russia.
    Thoughts are?

Doesn't make sense, does it JF. Especially after he was a bit upset last year that China was given a port in Djibouti. Now they are being given a military base there.

Moreover.....they are also trying to set up a Naval Base in the South Atlantic.

Of all the countries that need limited China comes to mind. We spend to much time on peanuts (Israel, Iran) when the main course may end up being to much to consume in the end.
"We’re going to close the unproductive tax loopholes that allow some of the truly wealthy to avoid paying their fair share. In theory, some of those loopholes were understandable, but in practice they sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary, and that’s crazy." -Reagan

To make matters worse, China is overtaking the US as the economic supper power.

Makes me wonder how Nixon's opening to China will play out in history.
    Not well I think.

First of all China has only 250 nuclear warheads, far fewer then the U.S. or Russia and as yet have not chosen to compete on a warhead basis. You might be asking why China doesn't ask us to reduce our count which is now 7300! As far a strategic secrets are concerned, China has the ability to steal them just like Russia did. I doubt we are giving away anything they don't already have. Peaceful use of nuclear power is in the interests of the entire world and China is now the #1 emmitter of Co2, most of it from coal. anything that will help them transition to cleaner power generation is a good thing. A wise man said "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer". This deal seems to follow those words.

    Greetings, Born Free.

According to the IMF, China officially became the world's largest economy on December 5, 2014. Stay tuned for further news on what this might mean for the US.....

Yeah well all China has to do is call all bonds they hold of ours and they are now the worlds economic supper power. Plus they have greatly increased it's military. They are not the JV team as Obama would call them, far from it.
