Just in case you missed it there was a UK election yesterday

Election results: Conservatives win majority - BBC News

It is odd that there has been no mention of this surprise result anywhere here despite the UK being supposedly Americas closest ally. Here in the UK the minutae of US political campaigns is dissected and analysed ad nauseam and usually years before US polling day

Its also quite bizarre when you contrast that with the sound and fury generated on the forum by elections in Israel

I saw it on some morning shows. I wish our system was a lot more like the UK's. The two year campaign and over analyzing never gives voters additional information, it's just a propaganda fest and fodder for tabloid style journalism.

Joking aside theres a bit of a constitutional crisis brewing here given the Scots have voted en masse to turn their back on the Union virtually wiping out the Westminster based parties

Fantastic to see the UK go strongly conservative at such a critical time in their great collective histories.

Miliband, Clegg and Farage have ALL resigned.

Well I'd hardly call it 'strongly' as their governing majority is only 12 seats which is the smallest since 1974

They freak out about the Israeli elections because the hatred for Netanyahu. Israel is just another political football in the US...just like gay marriage and abortion. No one REALLY cares.

As for England...I would bet most people in the US dont understand how British government works. They know England still has a Monarchy and it stops there.

And yet the government in power in Westminster is completely unelectable in Scotland. Storm clouds are on the horizon. I'd hate to see another Northern Ireland situation come to pass only this time far larger in scale. The Scots will want their oil back and for economic reasons Westminster can never let them have it
